Is it sad to go swimming on your own with baby?

My daughter is nearly 7 months and I would love to take her swimming. I don't have any friends with children so can't go with them and my partner won't come with me as he has a complex about burns on his back - give me strength.

So I was going to take her on my own. But I always see people on Facebook going swimming with their baby and a friend or their husband, but I'll be going on my own, is it a bit sad?

No. I've done it plenty of times.

Definitely not! I love taking dd swimming. Sometimes with people and sometimes just me and her. Dd counts as company.

Took my DD1 on my own for ages till I found a group for her, did not think twice, actually preferred it to when I started going with a friend, more autonomy!

No of course not. I always took DD1 alone.

We only all go all together now because of swimmer/non-swimmer ratios!

Of course not! Why would it be any sadder than going anywhere else just you and baby (like to the park).

I expect FB has more photos of 2 adults + baby swimming simply because you need the extra adult to take the picture Smile

Absolutely not! When DD was a baby I used to go on my own all the time. You'll see lots of other parents on their own with their babies as well. Why would it be any more sad than taking your baby to the park by yourself? You're overthinking it lovely.

People with photos on Facebook go with someone else because you need someone else to take the photo! People who go by themselves can't take the photo; it doesn't mean they don't go!

I went on my own with mine all the time. If you feel self conscious why don't you sign up for a baby class? They have the bonus of teaching you things to do with your child in the pool too. Just council run ones are fine. I preferred going on my own as we could stay in as long or as short as we liked.

What? No!
The kid is your company, I loved swirling my ds's round the pool while they coo'ed and giggled

Um, sorry but what are you talking about?

Another vote for not sad at all. Whenever I take dc (usually on my own) I always see loads of other people on their own with their dc swimming too

Oh yes very sad. Better not do it. Just stay home with her so no one else can see what a saddo you are.

I used to take my my children on my own. Also a lot of swimming pools have mother and baby sessions where you play games and sing nursery rhymes :).

No it's not sad at all! It's lovely to go swimming with your baby, nice to be on your own sometimes when you do things with friends and babies you spend so much time yabbering (because you've not had an adult conversation for so long!!) that you kind of lose the moment and don't enjoy the time with your baby as much as you should. Wish I'd done it more when I just had the one.

Much better to go just you and your baby imo. Then you can do it at your own pace.

I went with a friend and her baby the same age, by the time my ds relaxed enough to enjoy it, friend's ds wanted to get out!

Remember yoyr friends can only share photos on social media if someone has free hands to take the photo. I bet lots of them go by themselves, and don't go on about it on Facebook. Have fun!

We often go by ourselves too. We have a couple of little floating toys and often 'play' with similar aged children in similar positions in the pool.

It's half term here. I'm planning to take both kids swimming on my own. As I've done many times before. That other people might consider this sad is something that has never once occurred to me.

I often swam alone with mine :) but check the pool timetable for parent and baby times as sometimes they have music, toys and you might meet other parents :)

I always take my ds alone. We have been going every week since he was 3 months old. It's just a activity that can fill a afternoon and my son really loves the water. Sometimes I go with my mum which can be helpful because she can be with da while I get in some lengths of the pool.

You're not on your own if you're with the baby.

Of course it's not sad but I do feel for your partner, has he had counselling for to help him deal with his burns?

Wanderingwondering · 15/02/2016 20:25

Definitely not! I used to most weeks.
