question about a baby starting to walk

Dd is 15months, walking since start of December, doesn't crawl anymore.

I noticed yesterday her toes curl inwards when she walks, is this normal?

Her toes are extraordinarily long, when she was born they were almost as long as her fingersGrin they're still v long, which may explain? Do I need to get this checked out, and by whom?

Tia

I would imagine she does this for balance, particularly if walking on hardwood or tiled floors. Don't worry too much about the length of her toes! Do go and see your HV if you are concerned, though.

Thank you. It did seem like she was just balancing herself but she's pretty confident on her feet now, I was surprised yesterday when I noticed she was still doing it. Wasn't much impressed with my HV last time I saw her but maybe I'llgo see her again.

Thank you!

Yes DS has done this since he started walking though it is barely noticeable now at 15 months. But he did start walking at 9 months, and it was very noticeable then! I think it is for balance. It reminds me of monkey feet Grin I've noticed that not all babies do it, some of them sort of waddle with their feet pointed outwards and really flat footed. I think they just do whatever makes them feel comfortable and more stable while they get the hang of the walking lark. With DS it was like he was trying to grip on to the floor so he didn't fall off it!
He is also slightly pigeon toed, but I've noticed that it straightening out over time too. I did ask HV at his one year review and she watched him for a bit and said it was normal.

Yeah they grip with their toes, is totally normal. I was told they are not ready for "walking" shoes until they stop doing it.

Interesting, thank you all!

What sort of shoes should they have then? Just ordered some for dddd as she really wants to walk while out.

Either the little leather soft shoes (like inch blue) or barefoot shoes (look at happylittlesoles)

Babies usually turn their hands inwards when they crawl as well. My 15 mo does it, it stops her falling flat on her face!

Any soft ones for pre walkers are fine
