I've just started to express for the first time today. I have my Xmas party next week so trying it out this week to make sure I can express ok and that my dd takes it ok from her dad. The HV said you can keep adding the milk to a bottle within a 24 hour period. The first time I expressed this morning I got nearly 2oz and then stopped as I didn't want to take too much milk. Just about to express again to try and get another 2oz so that I'll have 4oz in total for my dd's teatime feed.
My question is can I take the 2oz out of the fridge that I expressed this morning and attach the pump to that bottle to top it up? Or do I need to express into a new bottle and then pour that into the one in the fridge? Thanks :)

What I use to do was express as much as I can each time until no milk left and use to put it in bottles... You can have the milk in the fridge for 6 days.

I would use the same bottle.. No point using a new bottle if your planning on adding the milk to that bottle.. If you know what I mean.

Yeah I thought the same bottle would be ok but the HV said but the bottles in back of fridge not door as the temp changes. So I thought taking the chilled milk out of fridge to express would make it room temp and I wasn't sure if it needed to be a constant temp?

It should be fine so long as it's not out of the fridge for a long time.

I would express into a separate bottle, chill and when chilled add to the alady chilled milk myself.

I would also express as much as I can get out each time, for ease.

Thanks for your help. My dd sometimes feeds every hour through the day so I didn't want to take all my milk in case she wanted feeding. She's 7 weeks old. Do you think she will be fine going back on the boob after having a bottle?

Yes, absolutely. My DS had no problems taking at least one bottle a day from approx 5 weeks old, EBF the rest of the time.

If you plan to continue, I used to express at a regular nap time, I think know my body just got used to producing an extra feed then. After a few weeks I could do 9oz!

I don't plan expressing on a regular basis. It's just for an Xmas party I have planned. Wow 9oz that's loads! Thanks for all your replies, you've all been a great help Smile
