Can you tell me what these marks are on son's legs?

He's nearly 3 years old. Started to notice a rash like strip on his legs - thought it was a reaction to a particular blanket - but removed blanket and now it's much worse. He seems very happy and they are only on the backs of his legs - any ideas?
Also has a random mark on his stomach which my partner and I said looked like a cigarette burn (obvs not but to be discriptive).
They are pink and dry. Pics attached - any help will be very much appreciated.

Might be worth getting GP to have a look. Is he ok in himself, eating, drinking, etc?

The top set look like chickenpox to me.

Excema?

I presume not chicken pox because he's had it for a while now - and he doesn't itch them - and they are only on his legs (back of). Yes he's absolutely fine and jolly - eating really well and sleeping better than normal. Which is why I thought it was just some sort of reaction to blanket at first - as back of legs might be where he sweats most?
Goodness I hope not chicken P ...

It won't let me attach the pic of 1 small round mark next to his belly button as apparently I've used up all my photos for today on MN.

Looks like eczema to me. Back of the legs typical place for it to develop. My dd's is worst in the winter months, it only reappeared in the last month or so.

Looks like an allergic reaction to me. Especially backs of knees where they get sweaty. Has he eaten anything different could've been yesterday? Or possibly what blanket washed in?

Do they look like nettle rash? In which case I would say they are hives, can be caused by various things, allergy or virus.

If he's got too warm then that's probably the reason. Strip him off a bit and see if they go.

ijustwannadance · 25/11/2015 17:03

As pp said could be a virus. Some people get a rash before/ during or after being ill.

It looks the same as dd's eczema. You're better off asking your gp than strangers on the Internet.

Yes I know I'm better off asking a GP - but where I live it takes a month to get an appointment. Unless you ring up and say it's life or death - and then they say go to A&E. Thought other parents might have seen it before - and would be sympathetic. Thanks everyone.

Sorry - didn't mean to sound like you aren't sympathetic. Just LONG day with the kids and frustrated that it's impossible to get doctors appointments near me. Also really worrying now about him as just assumed it was nothing serious. Anyway - apologies and thanks for all suggestions.

my son gets little circles of dry skin like the last pic you attached. It is a skin virus which comes and goes but cannot be cured. Does not cause harm other than a little irritation but we have some cream to soothe itching. I have attached the nhs explanation of what my ds has got.

just to add that the pic at the bottom of the page is nothing like what comes up on my son.

Eczema - as pp said back of the knees/legs is really common.

You'll need a gp to give you some mild steroid cream and moisturise like mad til then.

dementedpixie · 28/11/2015 09:30

It's not molluscum as they look like little skin tags/warts

Instead of going to the doctor could you pop to the pharmacy and have a word with the pharmacist as they may be able to advise.

HJBeans · 28/11/2015 20:10

Looks similar to what my GP says is eczema of some sort. He gets back of knees and round discs elsewhere on torso / neck / legs. Steroid cream takes then down, moisturising daily helps, but the spots never really go.

Report
HJBeans · 28/11/2015 20:11

We spoke to pharmacist first, too, and they were very helpful. Referred me to the GP for confirmation, but it would be a good shout for you if the wait is that long. Could at least put your mind to ease about anything more worrying, as they see a lot of rashes and should know what they're looking at. Good luck.
