treating a baby with a cough and cold

My 9mo ds is full of a cold, big heavy eyes constant runny nose, coughing, gagging on food and generally doesn't know what to do with himself. He hasn't got a temperature or seem to be in any pain.

What do you give your dc when they're like this if anything? I've been rubbing snuffle babe on his chest back and feet . Should I give him calpol aswell even though he's no temperature?

I give calpol if they seem really miserable, as when I have a cold it's usually accompanied by aches and pains. Also olbas oil in the bath and a drop on his sleeping bag. And the calpol vapour plug ins are great. Raising the head end of the cot with a few books helps a bit too. But mostly it's just awful and you have to ride it out! I hope he gets better soon.

albas oil in his bath, breathing in the steam will help to unblock his nose, and a diffuser for it in his room for at night.

I also raise the cot to help with breathing, and for DD I do give calpol at bedtime as I find I always feel worse with a cold at night and it seems to make her more comfortable.

I wouldn't worry too much about food for a few days, as long as he will drink he will be fine. keep up with the snuffle babe, especially on the feet.

You can also try a nose aspirator but I can't say I've ever used one so can't give personal experience.

Poor DS,hope he feels much better soon

carvol and albas do the plug in things, if he has a big room though you might want two. get it on for an hour before you put him to bed and hopefully it will really help Smile

Do you put socks over his feet after the snuffle babe? I found this helps DS.

Hope he's feeling better soon, baby colds are no fun for anyone Flowers

He's in a baby grow so not put socks on. He's asleep now hopefully for the night he's got snuffle babe on his chest back and feet, he's had 5ml calpol and I've got a calpol vapour plug in by his cot

Is he ok? Just keep an eye on breathing as some of those symptoms fit with bronchiolitis. Take him to the GP if you're unsure.

He was up and down all night he's off his food only had about 7oz milk and a few spoons of yoghurt all day. He's still full of cold but seems as happy as can be expected

My 14wo ds was up last night struggling with a very snotty nose...so this morning I pop on here to see if anyone has any advice and mumsnetters have come to the rescue again! Will get olbas/snuffles babe, a plug in and snot sucker aka nasal aspirator today and raise cot so hopefully we all get some sleep tonight.

Thanks ladies! 😀 Xx
