Baby walkers

Another question from me, can you tell I'm new to this.

Do people still use baby walkers? Those ones the baby sits in and walks along in? I thought I heard they weren't good for baby's hips? Or have I got that wrong?

Thanks

Can open. Worms everywhereGrin.

It's one of those subjects op. We didn't use one with ds because we had a small house with quite thick carpet so I'm not sure he could have wheeled himself very far. Also he crawled quite young, 7 months so we didn't need one. We did have a jumparoo though which was fantastic. I think if you leave your baby in either a walker or a jumparoo for hours on end they might get hip problems. My dnephew had one and he's fine. I think you'll struggle to find anyone irl whose child has ever actually suffered from using one so if you think your baby will like it and it will make your life easier then go for it.

I'm sure I read one of the reasons they are not recommended is the high number of accidents they can cause. Babies falling down stairs etc. surely that's a case of parental common sense! We don't have one as DSL would have nowhere really to wheel to, but he does like his jumperoo

They're definitely not good for Grandma's ankles!

Well, I didn't want to use one but my son was desperate to be on the move so when he was 8 months I got him one. He was like a different baby - he could crawl but was so much happier in his walker a few hours a day. Didn't affect his hips but that's anecdotal obviously, i have no idea what research shows about hip problems relating to walkers. He was walking well at 11 months. I also wasn't stupid enough to let him use it anywhere near stairs or anywhere unsupervised which seems to be one problem flagged with it.

I think if there is a pre-existing hip issue then they're not advised but really you just need to apply common sense. DD goes in one occasionally for short bursts and she's supervised so she can't wheel herself off the stairs or into the fire. She's crawling and pulling herself on to her feet so the walker actually feels safer when I'm pottering around the kitchen! The jumperoo is also very popular here.

Oh no! I didn't mean to release any worms Grin so it's down to common sense then. I may see how we get along with the jumparoo first, thank you everyone.
