hand, foot and mouth

DS has had a sniffle the last few days - nothing new there, he has a permanent sniffle from oct - mar. This evening he has a red rash in his mouth which the pharmacist has said is likely to be HFM. Are things likely to get worse before they get better or is the rash the start of the end?

DS just had this. Lasted about a week. Didn't seem to bother him much. Doc said nothing to do - just clears up on its own.

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know of any creams that can be used to ease the soreness/itchiness? DS has complained numerous times today that his foot is sore and until now (he's just woken up saying his foot hurts) there has been nothing there. Now though there appears to be a feint rash where he's saying it hurts. As he's only 2 (nearly 3) I'm not quite sure whether he means it's hurting or itching.
Would a dose of piriton help any?

My DD has this at the moment. It started on Tuesday, I thought it was chicken pox to begin with so was giving her piriton, on Thursday found out it was HFM, and have still been given her piriton am & pm and it seems to be clearing up faster then the doc said it would so Defo give it a go! But now DH has been stuck by it but he said that piriton is doing nothing for him.

When my DD had it, she had spots in her mouth and a single one on her foot. That was it, but the mouth ones made her pretty miserable. So that might be it for you. It was definitely HFM as I know who she caught it off and she passed it on to her nursery before the spots appeared.
