I don't think my son likes me very much

As stupid as this sounds I really don't think my baby boy loves me. He's nine months old and is lovely to everyone except me.

I started work again yesterday and he was brilliantly behaved for my parents just as he is for everyone else. When I got home though he couldn't care less but a minute later when his dad walked in he got all excited and went straight to him. Today he has been a little grumpy monster till again his dad came home from work and he was ecstatic!

Night times are the same. He will let me feed him but then won't sleep and cries whilst pushing me away. His dad then walks in and easily rocks him to sleep. This has gone on for ages.

It's getting really disheartening because for a few weeks now he has been the same (work was the most recent in rejections). I just wish he liked me enough to be happy when it's just us and not be moany. I'm bending over backwards playing, entertaining, taking him to places and groups yet he acts like he hates me being near him.

Does anyone have any Idea how I can make him like me. I'm not looking for love but at least some semblance of like would be brilliant.

Are you coming across as needy to him? Try being a silly fun daft mummy

My DD was like this at 9-12 months. It is a phase. He will grow out of it. Totally not because you're needy hmm

He does love you, he just takes it for granted that you'll always be there, loving him.

My DS is the same. He goes crazy when his dad gets home, is really good for everyone and plays up for me. But when he's poorly or hurt its always me he wants.

Don't take it personally, he's only little.

I promise I'm not being needy with my child. I sing songs and play games and everything Mary Poppins taught me but never thought that was needy.

Thank you for saying its a phase. I can't wait for this one to be over as all he sees me as is food at the moment. I bet if I stopped feeding him he'd start being nice to me again!

Just a phase - Ds1 was the least cuddliest baby never wanted to be held for long periods, self settled and very independent.

He's 4 now. Woke me up this morning by climbing into my bed, holding my face in his hands and kissing my face everywhere whilst whispering "mama If I kiss you awake can you put Mickey mouse clubhouse on?" - now he's very cuddly.

It's a phase, he's tiny. You sound like a lovely mum.
