Mumnesia/baby brain: daft things you've done during or after pregnancy

This morning, I forgot again to go to an appointment. It was in my diary, I remembered it as little as two whole days ago, yet somehow when the day came I just completely forgot. Until the polite yet (understandably) slightly peeved email came asking if I'd got lost on the school run. I burst into tears (its been one of those weeks).

I have two DCs (4 and 1) and seem to have lost my mind. I didn't have bad baby brain until after DS (the elder one) arrived. Then, I excelled myself by "losing" a pint of milk for several days before locating it in the cupboard under the sink? I say milk, it was cheese/yoghurt by then.

Recently, my sleep quota has got a bit better (mainly because I've given in and now sleep on a mattress on the floor of DD's room so I don't have to wake up when she wants feeding). But the baby brain hasn't gone away and I'm a teeny bit concerned it never will.

What completely out of character/incomprehensible things has anyone else done (trying to make myself feel better)?

I've walked out of a cafe without paying, left my nappy bag in people's cars and houses. Not too bad and then some odd ones, waking up in the night thinking I had 2 children and wondering where I they were all going to sleep. Thinking that my baby boy was possibly a girl as some lady told me that boys tend to be born bald and girls are born with lots of hair. For a moment I was like, my baby was born with lots of hair and then realisation that wasn't the only thing he was born with! I'm better now that he's 18 month but in the early sleep-deprived days I swear some days I forgot my own name and his name! I never forgot the baby though! My in-laws left my DH at a restaurant when he was very little!

I kept leaving the keys in the ignition of my car overnight.

Once I left my house keys hanging from the garage door lock overnight.

Lucky I live in a quiet area really!

I made DH a cup of coffee and plopped a tea bag in it Grin It didnt catch on.

I also successfully made myself a bowl of cereal, then got out some OJ and another bowl and started pouring the OJ into the bowl...

I have 4 more months to go... I think it only gets better, right?!

I poured boiling water all over my cereal instead of into my tea cup. That was disappointing.

When pregnant with DC1 I had to buy a new pair of tights as I had a hole in the ones I was wearing. Got to BHS and bought the tights, went into the toilets to change them taking off rings (two) so I didn't snag them. Walked out of the toilets, bought lunch and went back to work only to realise I hadn't put the rings back on! Rushed back to the shop and low and behold the rings were gone and the cleaner hadn't seen them. DH was not pleased as he had bought them for me

Walked away from the cash machine and forgot to take my cash. Luckily the person behind me was honest and called me back!

Walked away from the cash machine and forgot to take my card.

Got to the cash machine and forgot my pin. I had to walk away again.

Tried to drive the wrong way down a one-way street, behind the police station, in front of a police officer! He flagged me down and asked what I was thinking of.

Put ds in the car, strapped him in and drove off, leaving the almost brand new pushchair at the side of the road - I'd forgotten to put it in the boot. I didn't realise until the next day when I went to use it and found it wasn't there. It slowly dawned on me what had happened and I had to cancel that day's plans to go buy another one (ds couldn't walk at that point and I was pregnant with dd and had painful hips).

Handed my maternity notes to the person working on the checkout.

Still Confused at the reasoning behind that one.

When we had just moved into our new house, DS1 was around 1, I drove to ASDA to do some shopping, was probably away for over an hour. When I cam back I was horrified to see the door to the house was wide open! I was sure we'd been burgled but it was just me forgetting to close it when I left Shock

Walked out of Asda and forgot the bag of shopping and had to go back for it

Walked out of Asda and half way home to remember I actually drove there, I had put DS in his pram as only getting a few bits before going out. Had to go back for the car.

Woke up in the middle of the night panicking I couldn't find DS, got really upset til I realised he was fast asleep in his cot, the next night, DP did the same thing but then insisted he couldn't find "the other 2", we only have 1 DC and he was at least 7 months old by this point Confused

Was in the car with DH, looked idly out of the window. This was my thought process:

"Oh that's a nice car. What is it? Oh! It's a Suzuki. I didn't know Suzuki made cars, I thought they only made motorbikes. [Pause for no thoughts at all] Hang on . . . don't be stupid, of course Suzuki make cars. Whatsisname used to have one of those jeeps. [Another pause] Hang on, MY car's a Suzuki."

OP I have recently been anaemic and have had a couple of baby-brain type moments, eg not being able to solve a simple problem (I wanted to make the bed but DH had left his trousers on the bed. I decided this meant I couldn't make the bed. This was frustrating as the room looked a real mess. Later it occurred to me that I could chuck the trousers on the floor, make the bed and then put them back on the bed again. So I did Grin - but it was very odd that I couldn't solve this very simple non-problem the first time.) Maybe get your iron levels checked?

I've done the school run followed by 2 gym classes then had lunch with friends at the gym and came home to find front door wide open with keys hanging in the lock!!

I didn't tell DH he would have gone mad!!

I also have lost the ability to read anything longer than s mums net post. I used to read a couple of books a week but now have not read a book for nearly 2 years!!

I was pg and at work. At lunchtime I realised my brolly was missing - must've left it on the bus in. Struggled up the hill into town (was very heavily pg with twins), across town in the rain to the bus station, ran the gauntlet of bus drivers' canteen, drivers questioned, lost property office searched, no brolly.
Came back to the office, went to get my sandwiches out of the fridge, there was the brolly Smile

I've done the hot water on the cereal in the last year and my youngest DC is 8 Blush
My best was the new shoe polish in the fridge - and I had taken the shoe cleaning box out ...and put it away again.... without putting anything in there Hmm
And one that caused panicked searching was my purse in the fridge...just about to cancel cards when I remembered putting it in the cheese box Hmm)

I've left front and back doors wide open and gone out, forgot to seatbelt DS in on a (luckily) very short car journey - thankfully he was still in one of those seats that clip into a base in the car, but you are supposed to run the seatbelt around it too. Left handbag on top of the car and driven off. Left one bag of shopping in the boot of the car overnight - it was the chilled stuff too! Ugh! So many things - luckily you can't remember them all after a while ....

Forgot to use a cup to make a coffee (from a machine - messy..), walked towards my front door pressing the unlock button on the (car) key and wondered why the door wasn't opening, forgotten to belt DD's car seat (not funny and I always double check now), left my purse at home and realised after a week's worth of shopping had been rung through the checkout and bagged. Problem is I did this kind of stuff before! Just not as often....

I made numerous cups of tea without a tea bag in.

Sent my dad a lovely card and present on Father's Day and completely forgot the existence of my stepdad. I cried and cried over that one.

Went to register baby DD and had a moment of blind horrified panic when they asked our wedding date. I had absolutely no idea. I ventured a hesitant "October?" only for DH to wearily remind me we got married on Remembrance Day. Oops.

Left the front door wide open (never told DH that one)

Turned the flat upside down looking for my purse only to eventually find it in my handbag but in the wrong zippy pocket

DS1 was born in September. He was due mid October. I still have difficulty remembering his birth date.

And at work, nothing specific but I can actually feel my brain working slower since having DS2. Very disturbing and I feel a bit of a fraud and like I'm cheating my employers Blush because I was better before having DC...

I was going to take ds 8weeks to baby group and suddenly panicked and thought, how can I take the baby to meet other babies?! What if they fight?!

My dog and other dogs fight, that was the logic there! Sleep deprivation is no fun.

Yesterday me and DD2yrs went to pick DS6yrs up from football practice- we got out the car, went to the reception, I read the notice board then realised I was at the swimming baths!!

I put a work top and skirt on and tried to leave the house the other day before realising the "funny feeling" was because I had forgotten to first put a bra on my (large) boobs. Then today I was all ready to go, and only just realised I had forgotten to put my knickers on! Had remembered the bra this time though, well done me. The really worrying thing is I have no kids and am not pregnant Blush

"Sent my dad a lovely card and present on Father's Day and completely forgot the existence of my stepdad. I cried and cried over that one." Aww that's so sad Pixie :(

Went shopping and realised after they had scanned all the items that my purse was at home, so off I went home to get it, got sidetracked and popped into see my Nan then finally went back and paid for the shopping.

Drove past the end of my road thinking "hmm I'm sure I know someone who lives down there".

Got half way into the city to go shopping with friends only to realise I was still wearing my slippers.

Turned up at the childminders to collect the children only to find that they weren't there. Took me a good few minutes to remember where I was supposed to be collecting them from, much to childminders amusement.

Put whole eggs down the chute of the food processor when making cakes, rather than the more normal "shell off" version. Still cooked the cakes but they were inedible with lots of small crunchy bits...

I can go on...

Spooned cat food into mugs and coffee into cat's dish . The (West Indian) builder I was making coffee for said he thought it was perhaps some weird custom he hadn't heard of ... In my defence ,I was 8 months pregnant , had just woken up from post-work nap and had just been told they had had to put an 'emergency ' and unauthorised RSJ into our gable end that morning to stop the house falling down .
