Moving back to a primary school?

Hi guys, I'm just really looking for any other similar stories.
I'm feeling like such a let down for my son, he's 8 now and at the beginning of year 3 I moved him into a different primary school, because we moved and this one is just up our road. He was okay with it and was quite excited, but it's been nearly a full year there now and he hasn't settled, he hasn't really made any friends and comes home everyday telling me how someone pushed him or has said he's rubbish at football, just nasty stuff really and it breaks my heart.
He's asked to go back to his other school, which is a little drive but I'll do it for him. I just am worried that he won't fit back in? Has this happened to anyone on here? I know it's a rare thing to happen I just don't know how the schools will take this.
I have spoken to the new school about it, and frankly they don't give a shit, they have a crappy attitude and don't seem to really want to help.

No experience but as a teacher, I think he would fit back in but... he must understand they they may have moved on and made new friendship groups without him. I think, if he was liked, that people will welcome him back and be excited about seeing him again.

Has he seen people from his old school in the last year?

Thanks odyssey, that's abit of reassurance, yeah he's seen a couple of the boys at his football club. He was extremely popular, he had loads of friends and was well liked.
To have gone from that to no one must have been very hard for him, poor boy. Have you seen this happen before?

A while ago and although I did not teach them, I believe it turned out fine for them when they returned.

One of my friends moved a child for 3 days, then realised she had made a terrible mistake and moved back again grin

I wish I had really! I thought I he would be fine, clearly not! Gonna try and meet up with some of his old school friends during half term to help maybe

Yes, a girl I taught a few years ago left for a year & came back. It was absolutely fine once she realised that she needed to restablish herself within the class and couldn't just slot straight back in. My son's friend left for a year too & really did just slot straight back in though. But that was always going to be a year so maybe that helped.
Have you spoken to the previous school for their opinion?

Thank you Lady it's nice to hear that.
No I haven't spoken to any teachers or anything just the receptionist. I will do though maybe they can put him in a class with his old best friends

When I was at primary school, a girl in my year group left for a whole school year (her family went abroad for a year) and then came back. As I recall, she just slotted straight back in.
