Baby girl isn't eating properly?

So my dd is nearly 8months old, she can eat puréed foods fine. But anything with lumps makes her heave, she then throws up her bottle.
I've tryed her with a little bit of toast and the baby porridge for 7months onwards and it all does the same? I don't know how to over come it. We went out for tea with some friends and their dd a few months ago, the babies would have been around 4/5 months, their little girl is 3 weeks older than ours and she was eating chips. Then out again today with the same family and they ordered her, her own side of chips, she ate most of them, she had eaten a piece of bread on the way to the meal also. my OH was feeling our little girl some puréed food and I wondered am I doing something wrong. I wouldn't give my daughter chips right now anyway but there is no way she would be able to eat it if I did.
Just wanted some advice really if anyone has ever been in the same position it would be appriceated

They need to learn to swallow, gagging is normal and entirely different to choking.

Also, I started dd on finger food, no purée, so no need to switch, maybe your friends did the same.

Yeah I know she isn't choking just can't seem to help her get used too swallowing. I've tried finger foods like carrot, cucumber and things. She just sucks it rather than eat any of it.
Which is why I started giving her puréed food so she would eat something.

It is ok for babies to get the majority of their calories from milk until 9 or 10 months, so sucking and playing with food is exactly how she will learn to swallow. You're not doing anything wrong, just make sure you give her food play time

Try toast, a good one for sucking and trying to swallow small soggy bits

My son ate like your daughter until about 10 months when he got a lot better. He's now nearly 1 and still can't manage bread/ toast or anything too hard, but can eat pasta, pastry, lots of things. Some just take time, don't worry. We gave him lots of purees and kept adding slightly chunkier stuff each mealtime. Overcooked broccoli, overipe plums were a good place to start. And he loved cubes of sweet potato.

I think your friends child might be like poppy and my DD1. We skipped purees. DD1 can eat toasts, carrots, chips etc at 6mo. They are the easier food. (They don't require pincer grip unlike peas, raisins etc). It just takes time and your friends LO probably just has more practice.

I have 2 DD's. DD1 refused all lumps for ages didn't get her first tooth until she was 1yr and 1day! She did like rice cakes at that age and those organix corn snacks because they melted in her mouth. DD2 will have a go at anything she is 10months and got her first tooth at 6months she eats toast sticks of veg and is much easier to wean! She would probably eat chips but not tried yet!
Basically I think some are just more adventurous than others and having a couple of teeth helps!
