2.5yo worries about pooing in the bath

DS1 is 2.5yo and about 2 months ago did a poo in the bath for the first time. I admit I probably whipped him out too quickly to cries of "oops quick quick we need to get out" although I certainly didn't shout or tell him off. He got a bit upset that he had to get out and there was a bit of a meltdown. A couple days later a similar thing happened when DP was doing his bath.

Anyway a couple weeks later, so in the last fortnight, he's been refusing a bath all together and we think it's linked to pooing. He often does a poo before bed while reading stories and now he'll ask to sit on the toilet saying he wants to poo. If we talk about getting into the bath which is waiting he gets a bit sad and says "no no do poo in there". We've Ben going with the flow and having. A flannel wash but he's beginning to get a bit smelly and am wondering how much is him tearing boundaries and we need to get a little firm. Am happy with bath every other night but don't really want to give in more than that.

However, DS2 is 7 weeks so maybe there is some unsettledness around that and if it is because we scared him about pooing in the bath then I feel bad and don't want make things worse.

Will start by trying a bath in the mornings when he doesn't need to poo but wondered if people had any advise?

Try and change the time of his bath so it doesn't coincide with a regular pooing time ? (if possible, I appreciate it isn't quite that simple!)
