Ahhhhh we should not got out . Dam you summer. Ds nearly 4 . If he sleeps in the car after a outing getting him to bed a night is becoming a bloody nightmare. Seriously 20 mins of sleep can keep him up until 9.30-10 at night.
Anyone got any tips??

Keep him awake by stopping the car and taking him for a quick walk as soon as he starts looking like he will doze off.

5 mins sleep in car for either of mine means bed at 10-11 pm. Hideous. Please tell me a solution.

Poke, wind windows down, poke again, get other DC's if there is any, to poke, talk too, poke.
Waggle their knee, bribe, poke, find sightings out of the window ridiculously interesting. And POKE!!

I too suffer from this and it is hellish!

What LJBanana said. I swear a car journey is better than sedatives at making kids sleep.

When mine were toddlers at the sleep refusal stage I used to take them for a run in the car to get them to sleep. Not sure how to stop them though.

My daughter sings along to the radio. So I always turn the radio up if I want her awake. Tbh I must be quite lucky because she rarely stays up later than 8pm even if she dozes off.

DD nearly always falls asleep in the car (unless of course I want her to). I've given up trying to wake her up now, and just plan for her to be up late if we go out anywhere.

It's quite nice actually, I get to spend some time with her in the evening without either of her brothers butting in and competing for my attention.

We bought an in car DVD player - she never nods off when that's on!! Although don't take my word for it, she's never been much of a car sleeper anyway.
