New Captain America Film - Been told not suitable for a 9 year old, if youve seen it what do you think?

Had planned to take my Son and his friend to this new film soon but someone has said "Well I wouldnt take my 9 year old, its too violent".

What do others think?

It's a 12A so there's no way I'd take a 9 year old to see it.

My bf saw it yesterday - I'll ask him what he thinks.

In general some 12As I'd take my 10 year old to, some I wouldn't.

We went on Friday to vet it for our DCs. It's a bit dark and there are a couple of instances of swearing, but tbh the later Harry Potter films were worse in terms of violence.

If he's seen The Avengers and Iron Man 3 he should be fine.

Yes, you are legally permitted to take under-12s to a 12A. However the 12A was brought in under pressure from parents at the time of the first Spiderman film which had been given a 12 rating for violence and adult themes. Parents wanted to take their under-12s to see it so the BBFC brought in the 12A (there were then lots of complaints that the film was too violent for under-12s). Films are given a 12A because the BBFC thinks it should really be a 12 certificate but don't want to deal with parents.

Yes hes seen Iron Man 3 which I thought was fine apart from one word of swearing

Yes, I know that a 12 is different to a 12A - my point is that BBFC thinks it should really be a 12 certificate but don't want to deal with parents' complaints.
