I haven't really managed it. Midwife advised staying in bed for a week but that just didn't happen. DH is on paternity leave but has developed eczema from the strain of looking after me, newborn and wilful 2 year old plus all the cooking and cleaning.
So I help out where I can. At least with the second one the recovery has been a lot easier.

I guess tv is your friend for a week or two! And accept all offers of help- have them taken to park or soft play area.

What age are your kids? Do activities like play doh, painting etc hold their attention long? From age 2, dd would spend hours in the bath and I'd just sit on chair beside her and relax. Is that a possibility?

I agree with blue you have to accept all offers of help. With DS1 I was of the opinion that I could manage and wanted to prove to myself that I could. Well, I did that and it wasn't much fun, so with DS2 I accept any and all offers to help!! Freezer food, tv, grandparents, friends with other children taking DS1 out, friends visiting holding DS2 while I have a shower/nap whatever. It's hard, there's no doubt, but congratulations

Well, I'm wondering this myself. I have a 6yr old and an almost 4yr old and 3 weeks till my due date. Dh will take a week off so I guess I'm going to have to leave a lot to him which I didn't last time.

I'm going to have to relinquish control and bark orders from the sofa I suppose?! But I can't see me spending a week in bed.
