Hand foot and mouth at ds's nursery...

So far only 1 case, but we've been told to keep an eye out for symptoms.
Does anyone know how quickly they will show if he has got it, and what do we need to look out for? Nursery said he may get a spotty rash...

Mouth ulcers were the only symptom we got here, plus one small blister on a finger. Pretty mild case.

ours started with spots on the bum... thought at first it was nappy rash, but the following day saw blisters on her tongue, spots on the feet, hands and legs.

It was awful.. she screamed everytime she had a drink and could barely eat for 4 days... the ones in the mouth bothered her the most and she was quite restless at night time.

She bounced back and then I woke up with blisters in my mouth which developed into exactly the same as she'd had and now I understand why she screamed when she tried to eat or drink!!

Nasty virus altho I do understand that not everyone gets the mouth blisters...

I'd be wary of any spots on the bum (altho again not everyone gets them here).. .the blisters on the tongue are the obvious sign...

Blisters on hands and feet but no other symptoms. DD was fine in herself throughout.

Had the email today here about a case in the nursery as well...

funny enough I am the one with it at the moment (blisters in fingers and mouth ulcers OUCH) and DD seems perfectly fine... Hope she doesn't get it or if she did she carried it and gave it to me wihtout getting ill...

she had bad nappy rash last week, but no temperature and no loss of appetite at all... and no blisters...

Do they get a temperature with it then? Wasn't sure if that was one of the symptoms. .

the NHS site mentions a temperature...

www.nhs.uk/conditions/Hand-foot-and-mouth-disease/pages/introduction.aspx

but maybe people can get a combination of the symptoms

BTW if your DS gets it, Anbesol is great on the mouth ulcer. numbs the pain to allow me to eat

We've just had it, started with a rash on bottom and legs, then a mouth full of ulcers. Horrible for a few days then cleared up. And now we have chicken pox Grin

My Ds is just getting over this, its been horrid! The mouth ulcers are awful, we had to syringe water into his mouth as he refused to drink. Hope your little boy gets better really soon!

We had 8 cases in the nursery where I work. The symptoms and severity varied from child to child. We also had several cases of chicken pox which caused some confusion!

My baby had temperature and fever for a day and a half ad lots of clear drooling, and that spotty torso virus rash they sometimes get. Then she was in pain when eating and drinking. Lucking she could still breast feed and got all se needed that way. She went off her solids and the. I realised it was HFM and her mouth was FULL of ulcers. Then she got blisters in hands and feet and they lasted over a week. I gave her lots pain relief and bongela and sudocreme on blisters. Hope your baby gets over it soon.

I took him to the gp, and they said he either has hfandm, impitago, or some other virus. They are unsure if it it is hand foot and mouth, as some of the spots are on his inner thigh, and round his bum, which apparently isn't a symptom of it. The blister on his fingers could be impitago, because of the colour of it, which is yellow. So, they can't properly diagnose him.
He is fine in himself, and we have had a lovely day playing and having fun. He has been more tired today though, and has had 2 naps instead of his usual one.
We were hoping to take him to a fireworks display on Saturday, however, as he may be contagious, we are going to give this a miss.

Both of mine had spots on their bum area with H F & M. Neither had any in mouth issues. We renamed it hand, foot and arse disease Grin

I thought they could get it there chili, but didn't want to contradict the Dr. She has given me antiseptic cream for the blister on his finger, but easier said than done to get it to stay on him, as it's on one of the fingers he sucks. If he starts sucking, I have to wipe it off Smile .

our GP said they don't get spots on their bum with HF&M and yet it seems so common... she said it was nappy rash!!!

Trust your instinct... blisters didn't turn 'yellow' though until a few days afterwards so maybe it is something else...

Day 1 we were fine.. day 2.. yikes!!

Good luck

He had an extra couple of hours in bed this morning, but now he has woken up, is playing happily. He has a blister in his mouth now, so I'm convinced it is hand foot and mouth now. Fingers crossed they don't become painful for him.
