The Truth About Videogames

makingparentsrealise · 28/09/2013 10:02

To all parents out there here's the kicker. Videogames are like, comic books, movies, TV shows and all other things it depends on the person some people are addicted to it like other things there are people who occasionally eat fast food and there are some people who eat 2 hoagies at least. There are always people taking things to extremes and it is your child's choice whether they want to do something or not you can't force yourself down their throats otherwise your comic books and movies may disappear without inspiration from other sources. And if your wondering if videogames cause violence here's the thing millions of people play videogames media only picks out a handful of people it depends on your psychotic state and if you think games should be banned don't ask for big brother to help it is fine if you don't like videogames so you might as well get a computer they will get a handful of free games and there are also many applications other than videogames. And there is no concrete evidence that it causes violence. Make your child get inside his or her classroom put their ds or other portable console in their desk or give it to the teacher and tell the him or her to get out for their free time. If you hate the idea of them losing games here's the solution get them a flash cart it is legal game retailers don't like it because you can download games onto them for free (plastic and wiring too costly) you can also download movies and music on some. Also if you don't like noise get them ear plugs or headphones. So if all your kids have the same game and have a ds (some games allow download play but that usually have limited features so its better to get two games other than one the two ds thing is also mandatory) they can play multiplayer also some games have blowing and moving the game so there is stuff for movement parents too. Also if you want your child to stay fit inside I recommend the kinect, wii or playstation move they are stationary consoles but you can ask the teacher to set it up unless you get the wii that thing is easy to set up with a TV and is quick to put down and pick up. Also if you like touching things I'd recommend a tablet or another stationary option the wii u it has tons of exclusives such as pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and others. The 3ds also has a lot to love you can turn of the 3d in parental controls and has newer games than the regular ds it costs a bit of money or you could get the newly announced 2ds and I would recommend pokemon x and y on it. The game has so many things to do and will keep your child happy. So if it is broken that's your fault for not reminding and here's the thing your parents so of course you have to help them remember and teach them how to not break stuff and teach them to be careful with their things.

Videogames can also teach life lessons like not to be jealous and to behave good.

Are they also suppose to teach you how to put paragraphs in writing? But they seem to have failed on that.

  1. Posting on a zombie thread and then reposting the same thing somewhere else is not always going to make sense.

  1. I disagree with everything you have written, including 'the'.

If you're an 11 year old gearing up to ask your parents for GTA V then it's a no-goer.

Otherwise most people on Mumsnet are not against children playing computer games.

Do you have any reasons hell I'll even agree to some if they make sense. Well I am a lurker(meaning I don't post on the forum much just reply to things usually.) so yeah.

I'm a teacher, why do you think I'd be any good at helping parents set up a kinect?

Well obviously if you were good at your job you'd encourage children to be active even inside. Also Review no it ain't DS.

I'm good at my job, which is a teaching maths. Are you confusing 'teacher' with 'shop assistant at Game'?

I'm sure Bumbly is now prostrate with grief.

BTW, a lurker is someone who never posts. So perhaps your games aren't actually teaching you anything?

Food for thought.

My son has a handheld console and will be getting a tablet one of these days. They aren't the worst thing ever but they are not great. If I'm honest, I get these things effectively as babysitters. As more people get them, it gets more acceptable, which is not a good thing. There is a reason why grandparents tend to be shocked at grandchildren being allowed to play these things at the table, play on them instead of talking to guests etc. I wasn't allowed to read at the table as a child because it's important to talk at mealtimes and interaction teaches more.

It's daft to say that inspiration for other media will die out without electronic games! How did comic books and movies start out, then?

Why shell out an enormous amount of money on a 3ds and then turn off the 3d effect in parental controls? Because it's in some way harmful? Then why have it?

Also have you switched to tablets for tests because they are better.

Also ds systems can use pictochat and send messages so you can do maths on those too.

Have you told Ofqual that tablets are better for tests? They might ask to see your evidence.

Incidentally, I have used DSs in the classroom for maths teaching, we hook up a few and play brain training against each other.

I can't say that I think that pictochat and send message would be any better than an exercise book and talking to your neighbour.

I said in my post also you can wait to buy the new 2ds which is cheaper and plays all the 3ds and ds games in 2d. Also you haven't regulated have you I also said that people can get addicted to others things so don't think that's the case.

Well most movies now are based on games what's your favourite comic or movie.

Pictochat has chat functionality and why would you talk to your neighbour because I thinks that's cheating. Also exercise books wear out and you have to keep buying them for more space. Also tablets you can simply type faster than writing and your answers could be simply read out by the tablet.

How old are you?
You do sound like you need to get out more.
I have never said this before on Mumsnet, but I think you also need to concentrate on other things including your English.

Please dont end up getting addicted.
Please get out of your room more
Please do not get into hacking

And most of all, with respect, yes it is the parents job to monitor such things. If you ever have children yourself, you will very quickly realise this.
