chewing gum for kids?

Do you think it's OK to let my 6-year-old have sugar free gum sometimes after snacks to clean his teeth?

I let my 6 & 8 y/os have it even though all the chomping does my head in but I make sure I tell them to put it in the bin as previously I have found it out in the garden, stuck to walls etc.

Its so small that even if they accidentally swallow it, its not going to do them any harm.
