Im doing a long train journey soon with my 10 month old. I can either get the bus to the train station which would take a while and be a pain as I intend to carry my baby in a sling. Or I can do the three mile journey by taxi but the baby wouldnt be in a car seat. I understand that that is legal in a taxi. What would you do?

I think I'd see if any of the local firms can supply a seat. I think some do?

I'd get a taxi. It's always nerve wracking but u can't carry a seat everywhere

Dh is a black cab driver & we have done this but can also strap the baby into the buggy & wheel it in if its a black cab there's room

Well that would solve the dilemma entirely! I'll check it out. Thanks tribpot.

We have done this regularly on similar length trips. It is actually harder now she is 2.5 as she wants to sit alone like her brother and sister.

I've done it for short journeys. When I asked them I was told it is not a legal requirement,it's up to the passenger.

I do it all the time. Although he isn't a baby any more, he's nearly 4. I just put him in an adult seatbelt.

I've done this in minicabs and black cabs.

I am debating the same thing at the moment. I think I will end up bringing the god forsaken car seat with us.

If you decide not to, make sure not to share a seat belt with your LO. The weight of your body would crush him/her, if the car made a sudden stop.

We have done (although in your example I would get the bus as I am a serious tightwad so only get cabs if there is no alternative!)

Anyway at that age I used to keep him in the sling on my front with the strap fastened between him and me (to avoid him being squashed). I felt that was a decent compromise.

I've never actually come across one of these companies that provide seats despite hearing about them loads on here.

If you're in London you could try Lady minicabs. They will provide carseat and the drivers I've had have always been really nice - helping with bags and friendly to my son etc

We have been told they don't have to supply a car seat, we could bring our own or travel without one. We had few airport journey without a car seat and all was well.
