Growth Spurts

I wonder if my 3 week old is going through a growth spurt, unbelievably as he hasn't stopped growing since day 1, he was 7lb10 born, 8lb12 after 10 days, but for the last 2 days if he has been awake he is feeding! He hasn't been weighed for over a week, so we tried weighing ourselves on home scales without then with him and after double checking with both of us he came out as 10lbs!! So he put on all this weight from feeding every 3 hours, nothing excessive so if this is now a growth spurt on top of that then goodness knows what he'll weigh by Weds at the next weigh in, but now he won't settle, is really fussy, worried I was over feeding him but every website says you can't and they described DS to a tea for going through a growth spurt, any experience anyone?

I think they "should" put on around 20-50g/day - roughly 1-2oz/day

did you weigh him naked? as in him naked, not you Grin

if yes, then he's put on 38 oz since birth

38oz/21days = 1.8oz/day - perfect!

growth spurts - 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 mnths, 8- 9 -10 months and any other time you've just got the hang of it, but baby decides otherwise and routine, sanity, sleep go out through the window........

I'm glad he's feeding so well, be happy! I don't think you can over feed a baby either, don't worry, he's just a hungry lad!

a friend of mine used to give his son over 8-10 fl oz feeds to her son, at the age the when 6oz was recommended.

just feed him - good for him! Should he stop/reduce feeds when teething or having a cold you'll be grateful for the extra calories he's putting away now!

And congratulations!

Thank you, that was a really reassuring reply, really appreciate it!

He's actually more settled tonight than expected, he went down for a full 2 hours! And bizarrely he just woke for a feed and hardly took any compared to normal, assuming he's still full from his marathon earlier! That or he'll want more in 5 mins Confused

This being a mum job is far more mentally stimulating than I ever expected, never read do much!

You obviously are an 'amazing mum of 6'!

To update you, far from feeding all day, he has actually slept all day only waking for bits of food but less than normal! He really is a man of mystery!
