Why are cruel parenting sites legal?

I have heard of Gary Ezzo before, and today discovered the horrific Michael Pearl. Pearl and his wife actually advocate beating children under the age of one with 'switches' from a tree, and describe horrendous incidences where they have beaten other peopel's children. He instructs parents to beat children relentlessly.

Since incitement to other kinds of violence is banned, and the beahviour this man admits to is presumably legally child abuse, why is it permissable that he openly encourages people to beat children. To beat babies? (he proudly describes beating an 11 month old on his bare leg with a stick).

I really, really want him arrested.

He sounds like a . Is he in the UK, blu? I think you could certainly report him to his local social services and police if so.

I'd like to be able to beat him without getting arrested. See how he likes it. Angry

Is this true? How can he get away with it? Aren't social services interested in what he gets upto?

No, he's American.

here is his description of 'training' an 11 month old:

As I was writing this I was interrupted by a child screaming. Deb is baby-sitting an eleven-month-old little boy. I let him scream for about five minutes, as I wrote the last lines of the above paragraph, and then I left my office and went to investigate. Deb was doing business on the phone—talking to a missionary, long distance. The child was clawing at the back door, trying to get it open so he could go outside. I picked up a switch and walked over to where he was conducting his scream-in. In a calm but firm voice I said, "No, stop crying." I didn’t expect him to respond, but I wanted to establish the rules. When he failed to respond, I switched him twice on the only exposed skin—about three inches between his sock and pants leg. Again he did what I expected, what he does when his mother swats him—scream in defiance. But I have seen her swat him, and it never even gets his attention, other than a signal to scream louder. But when I switched his bare skin, he looked shocked and started to rub it. He continued to cry in protest, so I gave him two more licks on the bare leg. This time, he was convinced that I meant business. I know that he understood the issue, because he crawled past me, away from the door. Again I commanded him to stop crying, brandishing the switch. He stopped crying immediately, continuing to rub his leg while staring at me.

From googling it seems he is deeply religious and is using ' the same technique God uses to train his children'

I had heard of Ezzo before but not Pearl. I just found \link{http://www.nogreaterjoy.org/index.php?id=84&tx_ttnews[swords]=punishment&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=88&tx_ttnews[backPid]=118&cHash=f97cc7ba3a\his website}

It actually seems like they're advocating spanking FROM BIRTH.

Quote: "During the developing years, from birth through six or seven, the rod is an indispensable aid in providing the child with a controlled learning experience that will prepare him to make proper decisions when he is older. " Shock

Quote from Michael and Debi Pearl's daughter:

"I remember only one spanking. I remember it because I laughed all the way through it, and so did my Dad. I had played a prank that was dangerous, but funny, and fully deserved a spanking for it, but my parents were unable to spank me without laughing. That is the only spanking I clearly remember. The others were so well-deserved my conscience was able to write off the memory once the deed was paid for."

Strange, because the only times I've ever come close to 'spanking' ds, laughter has been very far from my mind. IF I was laughing whilst hitting my child, I'd take a closer look at my motivation.

Amazon make MONEY out of selling the book that this comes from.

Another extract, on how to get children to go to bed.:

He is part of some 'ministry' (so presumably has a particular hold over some parents) but whay would anyone sell his books on the open market.

Won't copy any more of his stuff (don't want to read it or return to his website), but I really don't understand why this can be sold, published, and admitted wothout prosecution.

Another quote:

"Many people are using a section of ¼ inch plumber’s supply line as a spanking instrument. It will fit in your purse or hang around you neck. You can buy them for under $1.00 at Home Depot or any hardware store. They come cheaper by the dozen and can be widely distributed in every room and vehicle. Just the high profile of their accessibility keeps the kids in line."

Shock Shock Shock

This was written in 2000.
This Millennium.

And Amazon sell it for profit.

TBH, I feel like boycotting them. I think I will write.

Freedom of speech, anyone?
