17 month old fell asleep for a nap with a dirty nappy

I put dc down for a nap then went back upstairs to check on her about 5 mins later, fast asleep but the room smelt very strongly of poo. She obviously pooed in her nappy. I left her to get some sleep as she has been unwell and not sleeping great...it's now 2 hours later...shall I wake her up and change her? Let her sleep and change when she wakes up? Have I done the wrong thing, should I have changed her immediately and woke her up do you think? Feel bad and worried she'll get nappy rash.

I would leave her to sleep if she's feeling poorly. More for the reason she might not get back to sleep and change her as soon as she's up.

I'd probably change her, provided she would go back to sleep easily. Otherwise not to worry. If she makes a habit of this you could make sure you use barrier cream at the nappy change before she sleeps.

Littlemonster have just had similar with DS who has been poorly. I opted for leaving him to sleep he needs the sleep and if it was the middle if the night I wouldn't know. Just change as soon as she wakes up and have cream ready.

Personally I would have changed straight away and hoped they didn't wake, and resettle if so. As it is I would def change now, if she gets a bad rash she def won't settle tonight

Thank you all....if I woke her up now she would not go back to sleep and would be cranky, so that's why I left her. It's the first time she's done this and usually pops when awake, but as she's been unwell that's probably why she pooed while napping.

Really hope she's okay and not in pain. Perhaps ince she's up I should take her nappy off, wash the bum area not just wet wipe and then leave the nappy off? Poor thing.

Change when she wakes up and a warm bath and lots of barrier cream :)
