Flattish head on 3 month old

Help! Does this tend to correct itself as they get older and sit up more or is it worth investigating the helmet route?
Has anyone used one of those special pillows designed to correct it? Thanks!

It will correct itself, don't worry! My DS had a completely flat head by that age, once they are up and about it goes back to rounded! Try to give tummy time as much as possible so your little one isn't flat on their back all the time, it's good for their development anyway :)

It should start to sort itself once they start to sit up around 6 months ish. I took DS to the docs at around 4 months & he said its due to the SIDs advice about sleeping on their back, although he did say to continue to place DS on his back. We were sent for a skull x ray but it didn't show anything abnormal. He's 11 months now & it has evened out. Still a little flat on one side but I think his hair will eventually disguise it.

Thanks all. Feeling a bit better about it. He is a good sleeper so I think that's a contributing factor. My daughter was a nightmare and hence has a perfectly round head!

We just used a soft and thin baby pillow under the sheet and turned baby head in opposite direction when asleep.

Our DD also had a flattish area on the back of her head from sleeping so well when very little, she's now 18mo and it is hardly noticeable. We didn't use a helmet or pillow, it just evened itself out little by little over time.

Our DD had a small flatish patch; I gave her lots of time in a sling (coincidental as I needed to commute with her in it anyway 3 days - 2 x 3 hour journeys); gave her tummy time (minimal as she hated it) and got one of the swedish pillows which I do think helped!

I will add my motivation was also to help strengthen her neck as she was born with a small kink which meant she only looked one way easily which was sorted by a visit to the Osteo at 3 months.

Now 6 months one of our friendly recently commented on her LACK of a flat patch - she was surprised as so many babies have one now.

I think it might be genetic or a result of the birth as well as sleeping on the back. DD's head is definitely still flat at the back at 13 months. Her hair is starting to cover it. She had lots of time in the carrier, had a "special" (read: expensive) pillow and sometimes sleeps on her front and side as there is bugger all I do about it now. She still has a flatish head. Oh well, she is a very pretty baby otherwise.

I used a lambskin under the sheet which I think really minimised the problem. Did have a pillow but he was wriggly and it just didn't work!
