I know its big and I hated it at first but SIL bought dd1 a bounce & spin zebra for Christmas when she was 15 months, it was the most popular present by far that year and a 18 months later she still loves it.

Think they are quite cheap second hand now too.

DS is 2 and still not especially interested in toys. He does like painting, and balls, and he likes books, but mostly he wants to climb and run and jump . . . .

It depends on the kids interest,. each kid is unique. If he doesn't like toys, how about puzzles, books, carts and others.
My younger nephews loves puzzles, watching videos, building blocks.
My eldest nephew loves toy car, bicycle and speed.
My DD loves has so many toys but instead loves to get my make-up kits, coin purse, laptop, and being amaze on how things work.
Every kid is just different.

Ds is 18mo and doesn't really play with his toys at the moment. Like, he'll get all his happyland stuff out but not actually do anything with it.
Saying that, he loves anything pull-along and push-able. Current faves are his toy pushchair (pink with hearts!) shopping trolley, pull along dinosaur and telephone.

He mostly flits from one thing to another and wants to be outside running around like a loon while I freeze to death! [bugrin]

Oh, and he loves books and could spend an hour bringing me the same damn books and sitting on my lap to read them. Trips to the library are good :)
