Is it bad to not wake up properly until midday with a 3 wo?

I've always been a late riser but is this bad? My 3 wo baby feeds constantly from about 10pm usually but from about 6pm yesterday, until about 1-2am, then last night up at 4.30 for about another hour, then again about 8.30 when partner did winding, nappy changing before going to work - and we both fell asleep again until just before midday. Really I should be getting up at 8.30 shouldn't I? But I feel knackered... Is it anyone else as lazy? Should I get up earlier for my own good? Not getting anything else done either as baby only wants to sleep with/on me..

Nope, sleep whenever you can.

When ds was that age he always had a long nap from around 8.30am so I went to sleep too.

Perfectly normal IME, especially as it's the middle of winter.

As long as you're both fed and clean then muddle through for now. Try and get out for a good walk though. I bet that once the days brighten up you'll be more enthusiastic about getting up at a more normal time.

You've got a new born baby! Thats exactly what you should be doing.
It's excellent that you can switch off and sleep! I struggled when mine were babies but I wish I could have done because I'm sure I would have coped better!

Nope, not bad in any way what so ever!

I would give my right arm to stay in bed until midday with 3wo DS, sadly 2 yo DD considers waking any later than 6am a wasted day! confused

Make the most of it and enjoy this time.

No, it's not bad, it's survival!

Herrena Fri 25-Jan-13 14:05:48

Are you serious? If the baby is sleeping then stay in bed!!

Be grateful that you don't have a toddler howling in your ear to 'come and PLAYYY' at 6am grin

BeebiesQueen Fri 25-Jan-13 14:10:08

3 week old? are you kidding, if the baby is asleep, you SLEEP!!

enjoy it

Getoutofmygumboot Fri 25-Jan-13 14:10:29

No way! Make the most of it!
I'm sure I spent the first 6 or 7 weeks of my dd's life either in bed or in my dressing gown.
Enjoy the quality time you get with your baby as that doesn't last long either!

Ooh and congratulations grin

It's what I did for the first couple of months.

AngelDog Fri 25-Jan-13 19:22:56

Getting up time was between 11am and 1pm until DS1 was at least 3 months old.

Wish I could have done it with DS2.

Keep at it & sleep when you can. And congrats on the new baby. smile

apachepony Fri 25-Jan-13 21:23:02

Ah, thanks all! I will enjoy the lie in guilt free then!

brainonastick Fri 25-Jan-13 21:25:02

Come back and ask again when they are 3 years old. Until then, sleep the sleep of a thousand years whilst you can.

GuffSmuggler Fri 25-Jan-13 21:27:38

Wow. My newborn NEVER did this envy

PartTimeModel Fri 25-Jan-13 21:31:48

Relax. Enjoy. I'm a wee bit jealous smile

My happiest memories are of lazy, long mornings snuggling in bed with DS when he was little.

He still rarely gets up before 8, he's 3 now

Make the most of it because its the only time you get to do it. Itruly missed having that lovely time with dc2

StripiestSocks Fri 25-Jan-13 21:52:34

Oh that sounds so lovely. Why on earth would you feel bad? I order you to enjoy any lie ins you get because they won't last!

MrsHoarder Fri 25-Jan-13 21:53:59

Is probably a good idea to get out in the daylight at done point, but apart from that, enjoy.

Cakethrow Fri 25-Jan-13 21:58:20

As another mother to a 3 week old who unfortunately has two older pre school DC (neither of whom nap during the day <sob>)I enviously say enjoy it!

Snuggly time is some of the best time spent with all my babies. I managed to convince the older two to cuddle up on the sofa with me and dc3 today and it was lovely. smile

Shaky Fri 25-Jan-13 22:00:48

I am sooooo jealous, my ds never did this, enjoy [jealous]
