DD is 19 months she was teething badly last week and I gave her her dummy a lot during the day which I never do. Since she's been feeling better she now CONSTANTLY whinges and asks for her dummy. I'm trying hard to not give in and only give it to her at nap time and bedtime but I'm struggling. It's just constant; I take her out - she whinges. I play with her - she whinges. Put her television programme on - she whinges! Help, what am I supposed to do with her. I feel terrible that she is so miserable. Sad

Firstly, whinging was one of my kids habits which I put a stop to very early. It drove me MAD!! Having said that, your DD is 19 months old, give her her dummy. It is a pacifier and she's still young. She should be able to understand that "stop making those whinging noises and ask for things properly" When it turns into a habit to communicate instead of using words that's when you have to be firm and tell her to stop. It makes you feel awful and I understand My son was worse than my daughter when he was teething. I wanted to put my head through the wall, no lie. My advice, lots of cuddles and some painrelief. It worked for me and I hope it works for you and your DD. I know dummys are frowned upon but she finds comfort in it and when she's got throught the worst whene her off it then. She's probably feeling gripey.

Get out of the house: swimming, softplay, park, walk around the shops, walk anywhere, visit friends - anything for a change of scenery... Honestly, they whinge less when out and about.

Give me running around a half dark, cold park any day over whinging... ;)
