My daughter is almost 8 months and she always sucks her thumb when she's nervous or sleepy of ready to eat... I've heared that it's rather bad habbit cause she'll have crooked teeth. And it's bad for her finger. But I can't imagine how to get rid of this habbit.. ((

I as a child sucked my thumb till I was around 10 ! blush my teeth are perfect, it's hard to stop kids doing it, my mum tried everything! Don't worry

I don't think you can, or should, do anything about it. She uses it for comfort, don't deny her that.

DD is 5, and still sucks her thumb. She is old enough now to understand that she could try to stop if she feels she can, and can make that decision for herself.

I wouldn't worry about it

Can I ask when she started? My dd2 is only 8weeks old and she is already sucking her thumb! In fact, the 20 week scan pic of her shows her sucking away at her thumb!! She won't take a dummy- she projectile spits it out! So different to dd1 who loved the dummy and had no interest in thumb. (sorry to go a bit off topic)

Don't worry about it. It's far less bad for teeth and palate than a dummy and plenty of adults suck their thumbs without any problem.

Dd came out with a indent in her bottom lip me said from sucking her thumb in the womb, she still does it 4.5 yrs later. I encourage her to only do it at bed time. She never does it at nursery or school.

DD6 started thumb sucking at 2confused. We tried everything to stop her but she wouldn't. She would say " I only do it at home as I'm not allowed at school" hahaha but from nowhere she said she would stop on her 5th birthday. She did!

Let her be, she'll stop when she's ready
