Offloading here. I have to be up at 5.30 to get to a job for 8, then we are driving to Bristol for the week. Due to this I have shit loads to sort out and DS, for the first time ever, didn't go to sleep. I know I am very VERY lucky not to have problems getting him to bed normally, as we went to the supermarket at 7 (close to his bedtime) he got over-tired and would not go to sleep. We got back at 7.30 and he has only just properly dropped off. And I shouted at him. And he looked scared, and then carried on crying. I feel awful now, really awful for losing it. I know I can't be the only person who's done this, but I feel dreadful all the same. The poor little sod! Stories of similar scenario's, with happy endings (!), would make me feel better (or at least less like I'm the only one.)
Take a deep breath, there will be no damage done. It's frustrating when you need to get things done, but your ds will go to sleep quicker if you stay calm. Do you have a partner who can help with the settling or packing?
Give your little one lots of cuddles in the morning, he'll be fine. If you can in the future pack and organise earlier so you aren't relying on him sleeping on a specific night.
Hi everyone, thank you for all your messages. I am so late in reply as I've been away for a week and didn't have internet. I feel okay about it now, I think it was just frustration! I am very organised and had most stuff ready but tiredness and then the fractious baby making things tricky made things escalate and I got wound up. And normally you can set your watch by the time he'd be soundly asleep too! Thanks again everyone, I appreciate hearing that I'm not the only one! x
