How long did you use a baby bouncer for?

I was wondering if it was worth buying one for my 5 month old.

Did you use it for long? And did it help keep the baby happy when you were cooking, for example?

Until I was worried DD would snap it when she stood on it and bounced.

Had the BabyBjorn baby sitter. Pricey but v good and has an age range much higher than others.

Maybe a few months. Yes, it does keep them contented for a little while. If it means you get a bit respite, then it's worth buying. You can always sell it on, or hand it to someone else you know who has a baby.

Like your user name!! Grin

Which kind? I used the baby bouncer chair from birth to 6 months or so, so no point getting one of those (unless you get the BB one like a PP said)

Door bouncer or jumperoo type thing, yes! Definitely get one - you can use them up until about a year IIRC.

Door bouncer until DS was crawling well, then he got frustrated in it and wanted to be on the move, so I guess until 8/9 months. Definately useful upto that point

Mine had no interest in bouncy chairs at all but both loved their Junperoo's and used them until around 12/13 months I think.

I have a jumperoo and it's good as a bouncer for a few months. Then DD got really bad separation anxiety and she needs to be in the same room as me or she will cry. Can you fit a jumperoo in your kitchen if you want to use it while cooking? DD still plays with it now at 14mo. But she cruises around the outside of the jumperoo instead. I also use it as a playpen when I can't keep an eye on her. She gets really dare devil now and I can't leave her for half a min to make a cup of tea. She could be already be up the sofa trying to reach the shelves.

It's definitely useful unless you are going to get a playpen. Otherwise it's only good for a few months.

I was thinking of the chair type bouncers.

Hadn't even thought of the jumperoo thingys. Bet she'd love one of those. But I heard that walker type jumpers are bad for their legs or toes. Any opinions on that? Or am I just being PFB?

As with anything like that, just don't keep them in it for hours. (not that I'm sure any of us would)

I used to drag mine around the flat with me so they'd have 10mins in it outside the bathroom door while I had a shower in the mornings, 20mins while I cooked dinner in the evenings etc.

Yes the walker type where they can walk sitting inside a chair is bad for their legs or something. I'm pfb too Grin. I waited till DD can cruise before getting her a vtech push along walker thing. The jumperoo is fine for development because the baby just bounces up and down. But mostly DD was just meamorised by the toys on it. She still goes and spin the things around, try to reach the birds hanging down, or just shakes the poles or the chair with a big grin on her face.

Yes TheGalliant that was the way I was thinking of using it, a way to keep her happy when I get dinner ready or using the bathroom. She hates the sling. I've been putting her in the carseat but it's an awkward yoke to move around.

She sounds very cute onelittle

You do need to make sure they can jump flat-footed, not just on their toes. I used to put a couple of yellow pages under DS's as his feet didn't reach the floor on the lowest setting, at first.

Dd loved the jumperoo and used it from 5months til around 13 months. By then she was using it maybe only once or twice a week.
While it lasted it was a godsend for keeping her entertained safely out of the way.
Had to retire it quickly after the last time - we'd been away so it was maybe 10 days or more since last used, she must of had another growth spurt as suddenly she had to bend her knees just to sit in it and sounded like a baby elephant jumping.
Its worth looking for second hand or loan from a friend to try first if you can. DD loved hers but a couple of my friends babies either hated it or lost interest after a couple of months.

Oh and another unexpected bonus, it occasionally put her to sleep when everything else had failed. Blush
