Feeling a Bit Disconnected from my DS.....

So thought we would re-introduce the good old days of Games Night, NOT of the xbox variety!

Any good ideas to keep him interested?

Also used to play loads of card games with my mum and dad, but apart from Rummy, can't seem to remember any other good games for early teens.

Why don't you let him think of a game? And why not Xbox or Wii? I know I get the old eye-roll treatment if I rattle the Monopoly. If you want to connect with children I think sometimes you have to meet them in their world rather than expect them to join us in ours...

Settlers of Catan
Risk
Kingmaker
Role playing games?
Cribbage
Whist
Bezique
Racing Demon

And as CogitoErgoSometimes says, why not Xbox or Wii too - he'll love being able to teach you then thrash you at something - that'll keep him interested.

Do catch your drift about the xbox being "their world" etc but would rather do something DS, DH and me can all do away from the world of screens. I can't bear the games he plays on and there very much something he does with his mates online.

He has actually agreed to a Games Night, its just finding the right game.

Will have a look at the above games bluechampagne, can't say I've heard of too many of them!

I mentioned Monopoly earlier and we got a version for the Wii. No annoying bits of toy money and Community Chest cards fluttering about as in the original board game. No gun toting psychopaths making noisy mincemeat out of opponents. Compromise solution & we play that very happily as a family for hours on end.

We don't have a Wii and aren't likely to get one as we already own an xbox, PS2, iTouch, smartphone and my DS2 is just about to get a nintendo DS for his birthday.

We're all screened out Grin

Just spoke to DS1 and he said he thought Monopoly would be a good idea.

Can't wait to get started, Pall Mall here we come!!

DH loves games too and recommends this site for reviews of games you haven't heard of boardgamegeek.com/.
