Just wondering really, As we have not seen one since January. DD is 2 yrs 8mnths. Last year we moved from one area of town to another area and since we moved more or less we haven't seen or heard from one. Is this normal?
I think there is a different one to what I used to have doing this area.
Also do they still do development checks after 2 years?

I am not sure about development checks post 2, but HV still available to children up to school age I believe - so 5 ish I guess. DS is 2.11l; when he was 2.8 I was concerned about his hearing, so I spoke to her and she referred us for a hearing test.l

We moved to this area when ds was 14 months old - he's now 5, and the only time we have seen the HV was when he was called for a 2 yr check. No contact at all otherwise

The health visitor is available in theory if you have a problem. In practice it depends a lot on the area you live in. In our area there are no developmental checks done by health visitiors. The six week check is done by the GP and will fill in a questionaire at two years old.

Nowdays most children attend pre school/ nursery and I think the goverment relies on nursery nurses to pick up developmental problems.

When DD reached 6 months, I asked HV at the clinic when I should bring her again for weighing, was it every couple of months? I was looked at like I had two heads. I explained that when I had had DS they had regular suggested visits until age 1 but their posters only gave recommended weighing intervals up to age 6 months. HV said I could come if I wanted advice, but they didn't feel it necessary to see children after 6 months. Needless to say, I went a couple of times for my own peace of mind and they did a 1 year check up. But she is now 2.3mo and I can't remember when we last went. The clinic /HVs are there for advice, and I am thinking of popping in to discuss DD's appalling eating, but they really are not interested around here.

I haven't had contact with a HV since my son's 8 week check, barring a phone call out of the blue at 4 months, when the only thing she asked was if we'd managed to take my son to show off at work yet? Hmm because I had mentioned at his check 2 months previously that we were seeing work friends the next week!

I've never taken him to be weighed, assume at the 1 year check, if it happens, they will do that. Otherwise, I don't anticipate any contact at all, ever.

they dont do any proper checks here after the 6/8 week check and we have to refer to the hv if we have any problems. I went to see the hv when ds was around 2 1/2 years to get him referred for speech therapy and he had a pre-school check (height and weight measured) when he got his pre-school jabs at around age 4 1/2years. There is normally a baby clinic you can go to if you need to get your lo weighed or have any concerns and want to see a hv.

I've not bothered since DD was 6mo, nor do I intend to unless I have any concerns.

We stopped going after 9mo as I returned to work. DD went for her (very late) 18mo development check but other than that, we don't see anyone. I would however ring if we had any problems or needed some advice.

Definitely depends on area. Up north they were hands on, down south, nowhere to be seen

My son had checks through 2 years and will see our HV again for his pre-school jabs.

No contact after about 8 weeks - apart from for immunisations
