9week old been sleeping in with us...

We've had our 9 week old DD in with us for the past 2 weeks (with the odd night in her moses which was fine) she still settles on her own but its been freezing in our house lately (stupid council still haven't given us double glazing) (and we;re living in my dads living room so DD doesnt have her own room yet)

How do you feel about letting baby sleep in with you?

there are all these speculations about how "you're building a rod for your own back" (or how ever the saying goes) but then you get someone who says (which makes sense) all babies want is to feel comforted, they don't know how to manipulate you and be nasty all for wanting to feel safe...

DD is happy in her own bed, and she also come in with us as i said above...
I do hope that when she does go into her own room, she'll be able to settle... i dont really settle her in my arms, she rarely falls asleep on the breast, she prefers to nod off laying on the bed to be honest...

but

im not quite sure what my point is now.. lol

Do you co-sleep/have baby in with you, and do you have any problems, or what are your views on this? "the food of love book" has some sound advice about it, and makes a lot of sense in respect to babies only being human and wanting to feel secure (being held/skin-to-skin/feeding etc)

It worked for me!

DD slept in with me until she was arond 17 weeks

Made feeding very easy and maximised the little sleep we were getting

When I moved her into a cot there was no issue at all

I have co-slept with all of mine at some point. With dc4 she was very easy to settle back to sleep until it got very cold so I put her in with us and she sleeps very well through the night, she is now 4 months old.

I don't think you are 'making a rod for your own back' thousands of mums co-sleep with their babies, as long as you follow guidelines and don't drink or smoke in the room then she will be fine. I always put dd on the side of the bed so she doesn't get too hot inbetween me and dp, or he rolls over.
With dc3 we swapped between us and her cot and now at age 2 she often starts in her cot but likes to get in for a cuddle at 6ish. I love it and it's a nice way to get a cuddle

Yes I co slept with both of mine. Was a bit stricter with DS1 and he slept in his own bed from 18 months on. DS2 aged 6 still comes marching into our bed in the middle of the night and has been know to refer to it is 'our bed' (meaning mine, his, and DPs!!).

i think it is mroe dangerous on a sofa than in a bed.
but is not recommended anywhere.
nothign to do with makign a rod for your own back though.

The only time and place in the world that doesn't do co-sleeping, as far as I know, is the industrial west. There's plenty of food for thought there.

Three in a Bed is a great book.

And yes, I have co-slept with my babies from birth until they did not need it any more. In general, I have an open bed policy with regard to my family members :)

Yes, read Three in a Bed.

I co-slept on and off from 6 weeks till 11 months when DS wouldn't settle well, and had no problems putting DS back in his cot.

Then I read Deborah Jackson and now we co-sleep whether he's hard to settle or not. He sleeps in his cot for the first part of the night, though, just because I like my evenings to myself. Grin

If we have a DC2, they'll be in with me from the start.

Stick with it, it's lovely, and lovely for your DD.

Still co-sleep now DS - 15 months old (today!). Buying a bedside cot for DC2 due in June but hoping DS will be in his cot in his room by June Grin.
