babysitter downloading porn on our computer

I would like some advice please.
We have used this babysitter a few times, she is a pleasant but quiet girl aged 16. We came back on Saturday night a little ealier than we'd said and my husband found her on our laptop in the sitting room.
My 13 year ols daughter also noticed the computer was missing from the kitchen when she came down for some water later on.
The babysitter had been looking at porn on our computer. Normally these sites are blocked but I had looked something up on YouTube earlier in the day and unblocked it.
She had used some kind of filtering device because you could not get into any of these sites from the browsing history and I think she was going to have deleted the browsing history before we came in, except we were early.
I have no problems with her reading porn as such. My question is, should I tell a close friend who also uses this babysitter that this is what happened in case she does it at her house and teenage son/Dad! might be unfairly targetted as the culprit. Also, this is someone else's computer she is using, a whole different matter to reading a few dirty magazines.
I simply could not embarrass the poor girl by broaching the subject and I don't know if it is serious enough to bring up with her mother who I know only slightly. My gut feeling is to ignore it and just ensure parental controls are on next time she comes.
What do you think?

Am I weird? I switch computer off if someone else is in the house and I am not.

Oh yes, definately ignore. She's not done any harm and I'm sure she'd be mortified if you confronted her about it.
Your gut feeling is right on this I think, parental controls back on - no harm done. Bless her smile

Saucy sites, not erotic fiction, but top shelf kind of sites

Is looking at porn the equivalent of what we all used to do as teens when we were babysitting.....snoop and eat all the sweets?

Pennies Mon 06-Dec-10 13:26:52

Don't use her again.

grammar Mon 06-Dec-10 13:27:03

Nickname, this is what I wanted to hear. 'Bless her' that's what I thought too.

Purple, yup, it kind of is, but it's the fact it's the computer, no-one would know if you snooped and found some dirty mags but in this case there could be some potentially condemning sequalae.
Pagwatch, At 8pm when we got out my 13 year old and sometimes 11year old are doing homework on the computer, it is used more and more with children now and as I said I normally have the parental controls on.

I always leave my laptop on with the guest account available for my babysitters.

Have never seen any evidence of saucy sites though!

pagwatch Mon 06-Dec-10 13:45:00

Fair enough. I switch everything off except DS2s comp which is set with strict parentals and he would not let anyone touch it grin

can I ask something else ( without being picky, just honestly curious)

We let DS1 sit for the other two at that age - as long as it wasn't horrendously far or late. Do you think you will need any kind of a babysitter much longer anyway
?
although DS2 has sn and dd was only 5 so there was no potential for the two younger ones to play him up.

I would avoid having her again - not because she has done anything terribly wrong but because it is so cringy ( wimp)

LaWeaselMys Mon 06-Dec-10 13:47:00

Odd one isn't it. Since it is at the saucy level, not the porn level, even at my house, I haven't got a problem in theory, but I'd rather it wasn't on my shared computer and while dc are still up.

Obviously she can do whatever she likes on her own laptop.

Maybe passingly mention it to your friend so she can make up her own mind.

<<<<<<thinks pag just doesn't want the babysitter to find out about her flowery cunt grin>>>>>>>

I guess we won't need babysitters for much longer, but DD1 13, is notoriously bossy and could exploit her position with the other two who are DS1 11 and DD2 8. I would have no qualms about leaving them separately (OK maybe not the 8 year old) but together there could be ructions, hence the babysitter. Also I think it asks a lot of the eldest to have to intervene if the other two had a squabble).

Arf at Baroquin

Yes, I do understand grammar

I guess It is one of those rare occasions where ds2s sn make a situation easier -he never ever argues with his siblings and dd thinks her big brother is thesecond-- coming great. They both adore it when ds1 babysits.

What do you think you will do?

pagwatch Mon 06-Dec-10 14:21:04

I have lost my crossing out ability... I am becoming less competent by the day

Poledra Mon 06-Dec-10 14:25:27

You say you understand grammar, Pag. But you don't really. That sentence should be
'I do understand, grammar.'

I think that 16 yo girls are curious about this sort of thing. I'm sure if the internet had been invented when I was 16 I'd have done some googling. Hide your laptop next time she's round. She's probably not thought about the possibility of viruses, that would be the only thing worrying me.

MackerelOfFact Mon 06-Dec-10 14:33:50

Might she have been looking at something else and the 'saucy' sites were just pop-ups (or pop-unders) which is why you couldn't access them from the history?

Having said that, I used to watch the dodgy satellite channels when I babysat (with finger lingering over the remote in case I heard small or large feet approaching). I would be mortified if anyone had known - it was curiosity more than anything deviant!

grammar Mon 06-Dec-10 14:34:57

Well, I think I'll just leave it. Poor thing, she reminds me a bit of me at that age, bit awkward and very 'good.' And I'd found a stash of dirty mags in an old dustbin by then and thought 'Hurrah'
Thanks for all the advice.
