How much do you pay your babysitter?

That's it really! Need an idea of what to pay babysitter, sitting from 7pm to 11pm approx. (We live in North of England, in case there are regional variations to rates!)

There will undoubtedly be regional variations and also according to what they have to do.

I'm in south-east and I'd have to pay the ridiculous sum of £20 to supervise a 12 year old already in bed. I would have got £2 and some crisps for the same job as a teenager. Hmm

We live in the north and pay £5 an hour so yes that would be £20 and as the previous poster said one of mine is in bed and the other is reday to go, she only has to say "time for bed" and he goes, so not really hard work!

My children are 7 and 10, so they will still be up when babysitter first gets here, and so babysitter will be seeing that they get to bed and reading 7-year-old a bedtime story. Also, 7-year-old likely to want to chat, so it's not just a case of arrriving when kids are already asleep and watching telly all evening.

I live in the North East of Scotland and the going rate here is £5 an hour and double after midnight. It makes a trip to the cinema quite an occasion!

I agree with Laurie - when I was a teenager it was £2 an hour and a cheese sandwich - but still double after midnight!
