How much to spend on 4 year old's b.day presents

We have hit the realms of 4 year old birthday presents and my son has started to be invited to quite a few children from nursery.

What is the usual amount to think of spending on kids of this age? We went to one party at the weekend and we had taken a book and all the other presents seemed very large. I don't want my son to get thought of as from a fanily of cheap scates! Any advice from other mums much appreciated

Thanks

£5-10 per present IME, and seems to be what other parents spend too based on what DD has recieved over the years.

I spend a bit more on closer or family friends.

Sometimes I spend less as I look out for bargains. For example I currently have some HSM dance mats in my present drawer. I got them for £3 from a sale, but their RRp was just under £20.

Same as Hulababy.
I sometimes think I'll be thought of as a cheapskate.

But, we can't afford much more. And, a 4 yr old does not need that much anyway.

I often give a voucher. Deadly dull but parents can help choose or spend it on Christmas instead!

£5-£7. No more than £10.

Vouchers welcomed I'd have thought.

My DD got 5 x £1 sellotaped into her card from a school friend when she turned five that was her favourite present as she could choose something she really wanted.

£5 absolute tops even for friends, if it's cheaper so much the better.

No one ever remembers who's given them what anyway.

Thanks you have made me feel better as I have been working on £5-6 pounds.
