Do I need to buy an insert for an infant carseat?

I was wondering how many people bought carseat inserts for their infant carseats to make their babies more 'snuggly' or give them added head support. Or whether the newborn insert that their carseat came with was good enough on its own - i.e. supported their baby enough?

i think if you need to buy an insert for your infant carseat then you've bought the wrong carseat!!

the only exception i think is with premie babies who are teen tiny. any decent infant carseat should be fine from birth for an average sized newborn.

apologies for typos, am one handed bfeeding.

We just used the supplied head hugger and triangular foam that fits in the bum bit of the seat to make it a bit flatter. TBH DD grew so fast that we soon removed the head hugger as it was squashing her shoulders.

We didn't bother with anything else (we had a cosy toes but didn't use it as DD was just too chunky to fit in the seat with it).

As said infant carriers should come with an insert/headhugger and I used this for DD1. DD2 seems a lot bigger though and although grew out the included one quite quickly she still seemed too small to go without anything so I bought one of these here

I'm not sure it supports her more but she seems comfier.

Thanks all! lola0109 I think I'm thinking of the same issue really, where they have outgrown the newborn insert but still look unsupported without it - the one you bought looks great. Will look into it, thanks!
