not quite sure why i'm posting thisbut i feel really weepy and shaky today and need some . basically the story is yesterday when walking dd (£) to summer camp, her on the buggy board and ds (8months) in the pushchair when crossing the road a stationary van started to pull out i frantically banged on his bonnet but he diddn't stop hit the pushchair over turning it , dd fell into the road, and he pushed the pushchair a few feet into the road before he noticed us and stopped, anyway i'm fine ds is fine and dd has bad cuts and swelling on one hand (but nothing broken) the medics checked us over the police were called the guy ticketed and will be attending a court hearing next month. he claims i'm making it all up and he never hit me (appparently i'm after money - such a litigious society over here) despite having at least 4 witnesses. dd wet the bed last night and had bad dreams, she can't understand why despite doing as she was told (ie crossing with and adult ata crossing etc she still got hit by a car and yesterday afternoon she visibly flinched every time we crossed a road, thankfully ds is to young to be so bothered, i couldn't sleep last night as every time i closed my eyes i saw it happening over and over again and i keep thinking about whaat could have happened. as i say i don't quite know why i'm posting as its not like i need advice or any thing, i guess i just need some cheering up and sympathetic words as we don't really have any friends out here

and I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm not surprised you're feeling shaky after that. And what a horrid man. Your poor dd. It probably won't help at the moment but over time you will forget a little.

Oh Chicagomum, how awful for you and your children, I'd be exactly the same.
I hope your DD feels better soon, some drivers make me so mad! Men in vans in particular!

Hey you did everythign right dont beat yourself up about it.

Its understandable that you had a bad night with you dd and yourself.

Just keep reminding your dd that thats exactly the reason she should never cross by herself.

Hugs

Louise

Oh my goodness. That's one of every Mum's nightmares, no wonder you are shaky. What a close shave, you must have been terrified. I can't imagine watching DS's buggy being pushed along by the wheels of a car.

Shuddereing and shivering just thinking about it.

Poor you.

What a bastard.

That is an awful experience for you - I would feel livid, scared and sick (for what might've happened) and upset.

Your poor dd. Maybe tell her the man did a bad thing and that's why the police came to tell him off??

aw..this is really sad..you shouldn't beat yourself up about it as it was in no way your fault.

i'm sure your dd will forget about it soon enough, and you can take it as an opportunity to warn her about road dangers and the need to be extra careful even when you think it is safe.
last winter my cousin took his dd (9 months at time) to hyde park and was throwing bread to ducks with her in pushchair. she managed to tip the pushchair over and into the pond which was half froazen at the time. he was distraught and pulled her out, abandooned buggy and ran all the way home sobbing. needless to say he felt very guilty ,but these things happen and there is nothing we can do,.
what happened to you was purely an accident, and be assured your tots will get in to worse scrapes all by themselves whilst growing up, with no lastingharm done!
hugs..and try not to worry yourself

Well done for slamming the bonnet loud enough to get his attention.

I'd guess taking dd out to cross a few roads close to you ASAP may be a good way to reinforce that crossing can be done safely, that she didn't do anything wrong etc. etc. etc.

It's funny - reading your story I remember the Tufty Club from when I was less than 5 years old (ie 30 years ago) and learning about road safety from the squirrel character etc. (anyone else remember this - early 70s) and one of the lines was 'cross away from parked cars' (which I never really understood)... I guess this is why, because you never know when some jerk is going to pull out regardless.

Glad your sister is coming out so you can have a hug etc. - these sorts of things are always a bit of a shake up.

May I recommend a delicious hot chocolate (or if you're warm one of those frozen ones with ice cream, LOL).

hub2dee - the reason you're supposed to cross away from parked cars is so that you're not masked from everybody driving down the road. If they can see you, they are less likely to hit you.
