when did you put your child into a forward facing seat?

Thinking about this for the future. DS still just about fits in his rear-facing seat, although he is quite long and his legs stick out the end!
anyway, he is 6 months old and weighs over 19lb

i have seen conflicting advice everywhere
mothercare says that they can go forward facing from 9kg
somewhere else said they should be 9kg AND 9 months
AA says 20lb and 1 year

there is no way he will still fit in his seat at 1 year!
JUst to stress, i know i need to keep him rear-facing as long as possible...
but what is the right advice? wait til a year? wait til 9 months? or is he ok now because of his weight?

I thought the advice was OR not AND

so I heard 9kg OR 9 months

anyway DD went in hers when she was 8 months and about 8.6kg

At one year...

Americans say 20lbs and one year.

well he sits unaided and is over 9kg

but he is only 6 months

dd2 went forward facing at 6months. but she was well over 20lb in weight and very tall. she didnt fit in backwards. she was also sitting up well.

hmm well then he should be fine forward facing i think.
he does still fit in his infant carrier, but won't for long. so will look into cheap places for the iseos!

misdee Thu 11-Aug-05 13:51:55

does your car have ISOFIX? i am getting one of those for dd3. tho i suspect she'll be in her infant carrier for a while yet.

can you come and borrow my car? justr looked at it, and seen that it has two different widths, and think it will be ideal for the middle of the car. please go get one fitted in my car.

starlover Thu 11-Aug-05 14:04:04

bet it was expensive?
the thing is i only want to try it out in the shop iyswim
and then i'll buy it online because it's cheaper! i think kiddicare have got them for £99.99 at the moment

starlover Thu 11-Aug-05 14:04:28
