If mutineers start a mutiny are they mutineering or mutinying?

I'd go for the latter but couldn't say why

If mountaineers mountaineer then don't muntineers muntineer?

hatstand Sun 07-Aug-05 23:00:21

I love that sentence

Easy Sun 07-Aug-05 23:00:31

Well, to mutiny is he verb, so I guess mutinying if you must.

Mutineer is a noun, so definately not mutineering.

I might say "behaving mutinously"

hatstand Sun 07-Aug-05 23:01:49

I didn't mean mine btw, just wanted to say something abount mountaineers

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:01:54

Oh arse, dh is right then. Mutinying sounds wrong to me - it should be mutineering.

You go mountineering, not mountainying, don't you?

Janh Sun 07-Aug-05 23:02:11

mutineer is one who does it, darling, and not a verb in any way. Mutiny is a noun, but also a verb. So it's that. [helpful]

Lovely to see you by the way, now you're back I realise you weren't here (have you seen the thread asking after MTS today? Someone said it's like Kim's game on MN, you know someone's missing but you don't know who )

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:02:44

Racketeering, not racketying.

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:03:50

Ahhh, you're all pretending you noticed I was gone now...

I don't care, mutinying sounds awful!

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:04:51

I think Miaou's mutinising is a good compromise.

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:05:16

Or if they were girl mutineers they could be mutinetteing.

hatstand Sun 07-Aug-05 23:05:17

just noticed all my extra ns. Muntineer???

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:06:49

You know you've been married too long when you argue about such things...

hatstand Sun 07-Aug-05 23:07:27

are we married?

marthamoo Sun 07-Aug-05 23:08:01

Blimey...are we? Is that you? Have you started the dishwasher?
