argh..me and dp are in a ridiculously tight bind..
his wages didn't come through today, so now will be monday at the earliest. I went to the social security today on the advice of c.a.b only to be flatly refused..they wouldn't even let me apply. they say as i'm not working and my benefit claim hasn't been processed yet then they have no guarante of geting the money back.
all this even though i am 5 months pregnant, and i explained to them we literally have no food in the house!
i'm so cross that dp's work can't do anything about this, and even crosser that the social refused me help.
any ideas on how to get some living expenses for the nest few days asap?
and no loan sharks please..he he..i like my knee caps intact

friends or family -- can they not lend you a tenner which is all you need for food for 2 days..

what is in your cupboards -- surely nothing -- must be some tins that we could invent a recipe around?

Twiglett Fri 15-Jul-05 14:52:43

could you borrow money off a friend or relative just till monday?

collision Fri 15-Jul-05 14:53:02

Could you buy groceries with a credit card?

emily05 Fri 15-Jul-05 14:53:29

Is there nobody that you could borrow the money from at all?
Could you get a temporary overdraft?
Use a chequ cashing place? (we have loads of these where I live)
see something? (perhaps cash converters)

Twiglett Fri 15-Jul-05 14:53:40

do you have a bank account, could you get an overdraft of £20

you must have some food in

collision Fri 15-Jul-05 14:53:47

What exactly have you got in the cupboards and we will sort it into a meal for you!

babyonboard Fri 15-Jul-05 14:55:45

family all live miles away and are at work..my mum has offered a bank transfer, which is great in case the wages don't come in next week, but will take three working days so no good for now..
even considered taking some stuff to cash converters, but they don't do buy backs except on a monday..
in the cupboard we have piles of spices, herbs and sauces, but no solid foods..have a bag of peas and ice in the freezer..we have been living day by day on dps credit card for the last week as this has been a tight month anyway, but now that is maxed out too

noddyholder Fri 15-Jul-05 14:56:31

nutcracker Fri 15-Jul-05 14:57:54

What about if someone pays a bit off your credit card with a debit card, then you could use your credit card then couldn't you ??

babyonboard Fri 15-Jul-05 14:58:07

stupidly we have been eating 'fresh' to ensure a good diet, without really planning for emergencies

WideWebWitch Fri 15-Jul-05 14:58:47

sorry to hijack!

Is there no one around who could lend you a fiver?

collision Fri 15-Jul-05 15:02:05

Get your Mum to do a Tesco shop online and she can pay.

Order a takeaway and get your Mum to pay with her credit card.

vicdubya Fri 15-Jul-05 15:02:37

Have you spoken to your bank?

If your dp's wages come regularly into a bank account they may be willing to allow you small temporary overdraft?

lemonice Fri 15-Jul-05 15:02:55

Yopur mum can put money (cash) directly into your account I've done this for my kids before and they can access it immediately, just give her your bank details and she can go into the bank and pay it into your account..and it's free.
