Godparent needs help with speech -

I am very pleased and flattered to have been asked to be a godparent to my friend's little boy. However, it will be a civil ceremony and I have been asked to do a speech or do a reading or something. I have been searching for something appropriate for weeks, the ceremony is on Sunday and I am still struggling. Can anyone suggest a poem or a reading.
I wanted to say something cbout what it means to be a godparent or something about life (I know that sounds very vague). Can anyone help??

Some people find what they're looking for in Khalil Gibran. Have you tried that?

(PS not my cup of tea at all though. If not yours let me know and I'll have further think.)

Thanks Binkie, I looked at the site and took one or two bits. Speech went well in the end I even got a laugh or two and nobody threw anything at me!
