What to do when you want a 'baby on board' sign but have blacked out rear windows?

Can anyone tell I'm internet shopping tonight? This is my second 'where can I buy' thread!

I was once told that the baby on board signs were actually useful as if (heaven forbid) you were ever in a car accident and the emergency services see it, they will immediately search for the baby first. IMO well worth having then.

The only problem is that our new car has a blacked out rear window so you can't see the old sign in it. Does anyone know if you can get an exterior sign or do you think the same sign in any other window would still get the emergency services attention (I know they usually look in the lower right hand corner of your rear window)?

IMO baby on board signs do nothing other than irritate cars behind.

I don't have one.

The emergency services will rush to any rta and will see a carseat.

DOn't have one - I've always felt like they advertise the fact you're a woman , prob on your own witha small child.

I'm aware others may think they're pointless but I feel better having one, what if the crash meant seat wasn't visable etc..... I'm not a mad mummy who thinks other drivers immediately turn into saints when they see it!!!
Think I will transfer it to a side window and keep looking out for an exterior one.

I absolutely hate them!

tbh, and i don't want to upset anyone here... but if the crash had obliterated the car seat... then i don't think that there would be much chance for the baby in it.

TBH if someone wants one in their car then so be it. I have one. If you find a small piece of plastic in a window irritating then maybe you need to chill out a bit. There are more things in life to get irritated about. They are IMO just another notice to other drivers to be careful when driving and take care - similar to a red L sign or green P sign for learner/new drivers.

Hate BOB signs. can't imagine how they would help in an accident, if paramedics can't find a carseat what chance would they have of finding a BOB sign? I imagine they would probably treat the worst injured or most accessible first anyway, which would probably be the driver.

I was behind a car yesterday when i saw one of those irritating signs in the rear window but when I got closer it didn't ready baby on board at all, but 'ex-husband in the boot'.

Baby on bord sign annoy other drivers ! why on earth would they irritate anyone, oh my goodness.

I bought one when lottie ws born as I wanted the whole world to know I was in the club , i was a mum, I was so proud. Plus i hoped it might make arsehold drivers back off a bit and not drive so far up my backside or if I wasn't doing 45 mph they'd understand it was cos I had precious cargo on board.

Am unfortunately highly aware they don't stop the a*holes driving up your backside as the other week one t**t drove right into the back of me when my lovely sign was on display bum. Mindyou I shot out of the car like a woman on fire and started doing a Jerry Springer mad woman impression in the middle of the road:
'You endanger my baby and I am no longer responsible for my actions etc.....'
He was only a young lad and actually locked his car doors!!!!

Baby on board signs really irritate me. I mean what are they for? To rub it in to childless and trying couples? or

Someone once said to me they were for if there was a crash they looked for the baby. So I said 'right so you always take it out when you are driving without the baby then do you' timewaster!

IF YOU ARE IN A CAR ACCIDENT YOUR BABY WILL STILL BE IN THE CAR SEAT!! THAT IS HOW THEY ARE DESIGNED.

Maybe they are to signify to other drivers that

'Baby on board' Therefore car being driven by erratic, distracted driver singing The Wheels on The Bus - keep your distance.

Dizzymama, I am glad you know what the signs were originally intended for.

The problem is, that every second car driving down the motorway has one now - with just the Daddy at the wheel on his way to work, and certainly no child. In terms of Road Safety/your childs safety, they have no value now.

I mean fgs... you even get "expectant mother on board" signs now - LIKE THE FIRE SERVICE WERE GOING TO MISS ONE OF US IN THE EVENT OF US ROLLING INTO THE FOOTWELL!!!!

If you want to do it, do it though - they don't actually do any harm, after all.

I used to have one but it's dissapeared.
To me they are to let tosspots behind me know not to get too close.
Not that it always works but i don't see them as naff!!!!

How unfair to say they are to rub it in with trying/childless couples. I think that is an awful thing to say. I am sure that no-one is that spiteful or disrespectful.

Noooooooooooooo, oh no, I think I should stay away from this thread! How ridiculous!
I can't believe anyone can feel so strongly about them one way or the other.
I'm amused but think I'll leave in case it turns from amusement to something else
I feel like plastering my car in them now though, think I'll have at least 25!

Flum - does anyone remember Ben Elton's sketch about BOB signs? Hilarious. (But that was before he had multiple kids by IVF, perhaps he has loads of signs up now)

Oh Thomcat they don't really bother me too much, I just view them like any other car sticker - We've been to Disneyworld, I support Spurs etc - why do they think other drivers want to know? I honestly can't say I drive any differently at all when I see one, I try and drive safely at all times. I don't really want to kill anyone with my driving, babies or adults.

Just realised there is a serious question here, dizzymama - I would imagine the restricted view through your blacked out rear window would counteract any safety benefits you could get from a BOB sign.
