I joined the gym in April and never in a million years thought I'd be were I am now in such a short space of time.

The first time I went on a running machine and actually ran I lasted about 3 minutes max and nearly keeled over when I got off.

Over the weeks it's been getting easier and I've been doing 20 minutes of fast walking/running each time, gradually increasing the running and decreasing the walking.

Every time I've been getting to 1.9 miles in the 20 mins and it's been driving me mad that I could get to 2 miles.

Ok, it the grand scheme of things this isn't much but I'm really chuffed with myself so I'm blowing my own trumpet here

It clicked over to 2 miles for the first time on wednesday, I did it again on Friday and then today I got to 2.1 miles.

I love it!!!! and the gym instructor has said if I keep this up he'll nominate me for gym member of the month. I spend about 2 hrs every other day there now

I'm not going to create world peace or anything but for me it's a huge achievement.

emmatmg Sun 26-Jun-05 20:42:45

I'm talking to myself again, aren't I??

KBear Sun 26-Jun-05 20:44:34

Well done - keep up the good work.

That's to stop you talking to yourself - it's a shame when it comes to that

WideWebWitch Sun 26-Jun-05 20:44:48

You are not talking to yourself, another woman with pmt here, well done, I'm seriously impressed, I've never even stepped inside a gym and I NEED to!

emmatmg Sun 26-Jun-05 20:51:31

Honestly, WWW, PMT+the Gym is fantastic.

I went in the other day and said to the young bloke who's really sweet, chatty and encouraging etc etc "Look I'm in a really f*cking bad mood so just don't talk to me today. Don't ever get married and don't have kids coz they really fu*king do your head in"

The poor bloke was terrified.

After my 2 hours I was feeling on top of the world and even he commented on how much more relaxed I was.

It really makes you feel fab when something like that happens, some goal you never think you'll get to, finally becomes a reality.
Do you keep a record of your achievements? When I started training for the Moonwalk, I wrote down how far I walked and how long it took. Its great to look back and actually see in black and white what you've achieved, and a great motivator, though you don't sound like you need any motivation.
Well done

emmatmg Sun 26-Jun-05 21:40:37

I don't record it posey, but I've been getting so annoyed that I couldn't get to 2 miles that all the distances I've done are pretty much embedded permenantly into my mind.

1.8miles on the cross trainer and 4.5 miles on the bike and 2.1 on the runner are my longest distances now.

fishfinger Sun 26-Jun-05 22:05:33

well done
no i just wodnered as i too run 2 mile s now
its very exilhoerating isnt it

emmatmg Mon 27-Jun-05 07:47:15

Are you a 32E er then, fishy?

I was chuckling to myself the other day at the gym as I had my usual extreme padded bra on (I'm pretty much totally flat chested without it) and while i was lying down doing some leg exercise on a bench I glimpsed my side boob profile. If I was anyone else looking at them I'd be saying "She's had a boob job" coz they were as pert lying down flat as they were standing up.

They looked bloody ridiculous.

emmatmg Mon 27-Jun-05 07:49:26

forgot to ask, Do you run 2 miles in one go, with no walking?

that's my next goal.

How long does it take you?

fishfinger Mon 27-Jun-05 13:48:36

yes I did it this morning 18 mins but it was HOT ad I was fiddling around with my Mp3 player halfw ay around.
it took me ( about 7 years ago) a good month to work up ot one mile
someohoe htough your body remembers it and so after ds2 adn 3 I could still do it without stopping
ma not sporty at all so this is a big deal for me. You need to breathe proplerly ad just take it a bit farther every day
I go out at about 6 15 am and am back all done ad doing breakfast at 645!

emmatmg Mon 27-Jun-05 16:16:24

I did 2.1 again this morning and faster than I did it yesterday.

It clicked to 2.1 at 19 mins and 10 seconds or there abouts.
Yesterday it was 2.1 miles with about 2 seconds to spare.

I only slowed to a fast walk to have water,a nd was running again within a minute each time.

After that I did 4.8 miles on the bike which is another new record.

I'm really chuffed, Dh on the other hand isn't in the least bit impressed. Bastard

QueenEagle Mon 27-Jun-05 16:23:55

Emma, you have done brilliantly and I totally understand why you are so chuffed with yourself. I used to record how far I did on the treadmill - about 6 weeks ago I was doing 1 mile in about 9 minutes, a month prior to that I was struggling to get it to under 12 mins. Same with the rower; I record how far I can row in 10 minutes, I think it was about 2100metres.

I am currently laid up having dislocated my kneecap and ruptured ligaments in my knee. I have been in the gym with the physiotherapist and atm it's all I can do to cycle for 5 mins without it being agony.

I can't wait to get back to full fitness so I can get back to the gym. You are making me reading your excellent achievements!

emmatmg Mon 27-Jun-05 16:29:18

Thanks QE.

I used to love the rower(when i used to got before having kids)as they were flash ones that we could link together and race other people. Nothing as good as that now and I just find them boring.

Bloody hell! 2100m in minutes is bloody good going, that would finish me off.

QueenEagle Mon 27-Jun-05 16:35:18

This will sound gross, but I love working so hard that the sweat is dripping from me, and being out of breath. I really miss it, you know!

emmatmg Mon 27-Jun-05 16:53:05

Doesn't sound gross at all, I was saying the exact same thing to my cousin the other day, trying to describe the feeling.

I'm sure she thought I was some kind of perv

I'd feel very cheated if I came out of the gym WITHOUT that feeling.

emmatmg Wed 29-Jun-05 16:10:56

Can't start another thread like this so will just witter away on here.

I bloody well did it again today and got to 2.2 miles. I reduced the speed twice for 20 seconds max each time to drink and ran for for the rest of the 20 minutes.

The gym instucter took my blood pressure/heart rate within 2-3 minutes of finishing and it was 76/136, he worked my running heart rate out to be 131 bpm. He said that's brilliant.

I'm really pleased with myself.
