malicious phone calls

didn't want to hijack the other phone call thread.

I started getting silent phone calls in may on my mob, number withheld, when i answered it, the caller would ahng up, sometimes before as well, sometimes they would hang on for a bit before clicking off. :ast few days the calls have been getting more and more frequent, and last night i started getting texts from a number i dont know. I replied to one, asking who it was, and got more replies, but not answering the question, so i ignored them. Today i got more texts from a diff number i dont know, along with the other number, and the silent calls. Dh answered one of them and could hear background noise before they cut off, my (male) friend answered some more for me, they cut off again. When i got another text dh called them, as the number was displayed (second number that has appeared) and told them not to call or text me again. They have continued to call and i have just received a text from the first texted number, saying " i don't know who you are but pray that i don't find you"

I know i have to report it to the malicious calls office of orange, and get my number changed, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced it, and what the outcome was? It's really freaking me.

Tia

Oh, shit, lou, no idea what this is about but it would freak me too - call Orange right away, you don't need this. Maybe some of it was some commercial crap, maybe not, but it's been going on too long, and that latest text is just wrong, even if it's meant as a sick joke.

Hugs (sorry) XXX

Keep the texts lou, don't delete them. Orange or the malicious calls people might want them.

Hope you get this sorted soon, sounds very unnerving.

my friend was telling me about this happening to her today. Report it, keep a record. If necessary tell the police. Cowardly stewards the lot of them!!!!

i called orange today and asked them about it, so they have a record of my query this morning, but it was more annoying than anything earlier, now i feel quite nervous.

the v first text was asking if i was really married, but spelled badly, , go away, would i like to meet them tonight at 7, all from the same number. Then a new one texted after a load of silent calls saying who was i cos they found my number on their other phone. Dh called them, but it was the other number who said pray i dont find you. I think they are the same person, switching phones. I know in hindsight he probably would have been best ignoring them, but he was hoping hearing a male voice would make them leave it. Obviously not

do you give your mobile number out to people generally lou or just a few select? And can you think back to when you may have discussed being married etc with a man somewhere and maybe given him your number?

Report
lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:04

nope i am really fussy about who i give it out to

When did you get the phone?? maybe it was a recycled number??

Report

forgot to say that when dh called back one of the numbers, the person who answered was using a voice distortion box initially.

Sounds like they have guessed a number and now are trying to freak you out. Do they know your name??

It sounds really horrible for you Lou. I think I'd be inclined to speak to the police about it.

it wouldnt by chance be the "Darth Vader" voice distortion box from TRUS would it as that's pretty good - and therefore may be just a teenager messing about

invisiblegirl · 22/06/2005 00:09

only ds tried one on in TRUS and it was really freaky

don't know i didn't hear it, dh did. It could be but it still isn't funny. The bad spelling and text speak leads me to believe it is someone younger tho.

Had silent calls on my house phone but nothing on my mobile. BT traced the silent calls but they wouldn't tell me any more than that- they stopped. I think as it's a criminal offence to harass people by phone as well as other ways I'd contact the police as well lou. So sorry you're going through this

lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:12

I am doing so, but my landline is also number withheld when it comes up on screen (permanently done through bt), so if i am not at home i dont know if it is them or home calling.
