What to do about my sister (no. 81845778)

My (twin) sister is planning on coming to see my dd off when she goes off to Germany in a few weeks. The coach is leaving at 2am and she would have to drive about 10-12 miles to the school. I think she is being over the top and feel its a time for us as parents and her little brother to see her off and not a free-for-all. She has asked dd if she can come and dd is quite polite and has said "yes" even though she doesnt really want her to come. Its her first trip away and I want to see my baby off - how do I tell her?

I have suggested its a ridiculous time and its not necessary at all

I think that's really sweet actually - both on your sister's and your dd's part.

Why don't you say you think a family tea (or something) a couple of days before would be better and less overwhelming for your dd.

My dd1 went off to France on Monday - back tonight. There were quite a few upset kids there - for some it was their first trip away. I think the sending off is best done with just their own family. IMO your sister is being a little OTT.

As an alternative idea, the family tea is a good one.

I think it is lovely she wants to go and see her off -- you hear too much about family not getting involved so I would not have had a problem with this...

But if it upsets you... then tell her and say you don't want DD overwhelmed when she goes and do a smaller family thing...

thanks girls. As Ive posted many many times, our family dont get involved unless it suits them. Prime example: Dh and I went out for the first time together in about 3 years the other day because no bugger will babysit!

Haven't heard how she's been doing - but no news is good news, so they say! [nervous emoticon]

It's not the first time she's been away, so I'm used to that side of things, but the house has been soooo quiet!
