Lists

that De Kramp thread has got me wondering if people make lists each day. When you're at home and have a load of jobs to do, like cleaning marks off the walls, ironing and then write 1 hour after it (so you don't do too much) have I gone mad or does anyone else tackle housework this way.

or if you have say a few days off work does the housework not get done as you need a break from it.

I make lists all the time, lists at work, lists of shopping, lists of evening tasks. Feel like I've got something doen and also it means I am less likely to forget stuff!

No not mad at all.

I used to make 'lists' of things to do (and use a timer to know when to 'stop' them.

Now I use my mobile phone reminders. Before I go to bed I put in 10 reminders (that's the maximum it will take) for the following day, some are 'everyday things' - like "Pick Taf up" (as I'm often late), or "start dinner" (so it's ready at a decent hour).

The rest I change on a daily basis, Washing, Ironing, Market, "Work" (which I'm supposed to be doing now , change sheets etc etc.

Of course I can only fit 10 'main' jobs in each day (some of them routine) but I've found I'm getting more done and the house is more organised because I'm 'forced' to prioritise - and I don't end up with so many things to do I've got a cat hin hell's chance of getting them done.

Obviously other little jobs get done inbetween whiles.

I wish I was organised... every now and then I set out with lists... then lose the bit of paper

I remember having a computer post it note programme once, and it had little post its on your screen til you clicked them away... anyone know where it came from/how I can get it again - that worked about best for me (what with me being surgically attatched to my pootah )

flamesparrow - there's one of those in Microsoft Outlook (email programme) under "Tasks" can't remember if it was also in Outlook Express.

My outlook went insane a while ago and i can't use it ... note to self - never let men near your half of the pootah!!

I have just managed to download a programme that does the same thing... even sets alarms for you!!!

alternatively have a look on your mobile phone and see if it has 'reminders' on it.....I've found it works better (for me) than the reminder programmes on the computer.

Hi there

I'm here (had a bit of a nightmare with internet connections at work today!!).

OF COURSE I love lists! It's the only way to live! People may mock me but they are just secretly jealous because I am so calm and serene all the time due to my lists! I love them!

I write down in my diary what we are having for tea every night and then write my shopping list from that! Saves buying food you don't need! I list things to take out of the freezer each day for lunches etc. I list jobs to do and used to do it with cleaning etc but now am lucky enough to have a cleaner!

I change the beds on a rota basis. I used to rotate the dds' clothes but they rebelled and the same with the breakfst cereals!!!!

I am a bit of a control freak but am not thrown into a spin if I have to change my plans - I can do flexible and spontaneous if I absolutely HAVE to!! It just makes life so much easier.

I feel I should write a lifestyle book or something to get people to see the light!!

I hate those computer reminder thingys
but I love old fashioned written lists for the major things, never write stuff like 'must change sheets' tho that would drive me insane!

Well I guess it depends on how often you change your sheets - I do mine every 2 weeks in the winter and everyweek in the winter - always on a Monday too and 'alternate' weeks with the boys beds - I HATE changing sheets (I'm only 5ft so changing the sheets on a double bed is marathon task for me) and if I didn't 'remind' myself they needed doing they'd get left for AGES.

Yes I do change them, Gwenick! it's just a habit tho, it would irk me to write it down as well, just adding to the horrible chore it is already!

You must spend all winter changin sheets and be stinky in summer

My mum set me up on a system of changing sheets every day with a 4 in it (4th, 14th, 24th etc)... so its not quite so much as weekly cos my little brain can't cope with that, but not so long as fortnightly.

PMSL - that'll teach me to preview (I'm always saying that LOL) or perhaps I should just close the MN window and actually DO some work

Report
Listmaker · 09/06/2005 13:47

I don't actually write 'change sheets' on a list - see I can be a free spririt!!

I just do my bed, dd2's bed, dd3's bed, towels in that order each time a white's wash goes in!! In between do the colours washes so it works out that they get done every 2 weeks on the whole maybe a bit less. I'm pretty clean so think that's often enough!

I don't write EVERYTHING down - I hoover the living room spontaneously!
