betterware (i think) catalogues

just had sudden and unexpected explosive rant on another thread - not rowing with anyone, just got reminded of something in rl that drives me mad. do you think im unreasonable?

its those blinkin useless catalogues that get left outside your door every week. i think they are betterware or some such thing, anyway they are home gadgety stuff. I NEVER buy anything from them in like 6 years of getting them shoved thru my door. in fact, if i see them come thru i open the door and hand them straight back, or just put them right outside the front door, but often i just shove them in the bin. then i get a knock at the door "ive come to collect the catalogue" i say ive thrown it in the bin, they get nasty cos they have to pay for them or something, so i say did i ask you to put it thru my door, no, so its unsolicited mail. junk. so i can do what i want with it.

just so fed up of keep telling them i am never going to order from them so stop bombarding me with crappy catalogues and they still do it!!!!

i know it shouldnt drive me crazy, but its all rubbish in there anyway and i have said im not interested a million times and it just bugs me that they still do it - its like those double glazing salesmen who phone all the time!!!!!!

yes it bugs me too. I never buy anything from them and find they are really expensive too. I did actually look through one fro curiosity sake once.
I know that the people who are doing it are just trying to make money but I think the whole thing is a rip off as they have to pay for the catalogues etc and the only people really making the money are the company and from their own sales reps too!!! Its all a scam AFAICS

its just unidentifiable bits of plastic and stupid gadgets that even if you bought it would get used once then shoved in a drawer. if you dont know you need it (or that it exists!!) until you see it in this catalogue then you DONT need it!

Not all Betterware reps are the same you know.

I have done Betterware for 18 months. The first time I posted books I knocked on all the doors with those 'We don't buy blah blah' stickers and asked the householder if they wanted a book. Quite a few said yes and are now amongst my best customers. If anyone ever tells me they are not interested I note the house on my records and don't post there again. Why would I want to waste my time and effort on people who aren't interested anyway?

tarantula - for what it's worth, Betterware doesn't cost the rep a single penny. All catalogues/paperwork/carrier bags etc are free.

Re plastic tat - yep, the same plastic tat that Lakeland do but often cheaper and it's amazing how many people rave about Lakeland.

saintgeorge - the person who asked for the catalogue back said she got charged for them when people threw them away and was very snotty! and the catalogues keep coming!!!!!!! very good question, why DOES she keep shoving them thru my door when i keep telling her no? ah well

My2P - that's probably Kleeneze then, Betterware do not charge. If she is from Betterware then she should be reported to her area manager for bad practice.

Betterware have set territories and I visit each house on my patch about once every 5-6 weeks. Kleeneze don't do territories so you get different people working the same patch and multiple books through your door.

I once bought a de-fluffer thing from one of those catalogues. Works a treat btw. However the lovely collector man always looks disappointed when he sees I haven't ordered anything else. Mind, it was 7 years ago and he's still hopeful!

oliveoil - that's not very practical if you've got a long narrow hallway, no shelves in it and a toddler that will rip anything on the door mat to shreds (he's worse than a dog - honest!) if you leave it there more than 5 minutes

lol That sounds so easy OO but I think the worse bit is the rant from dp along the lines of "they put the thing through my letter box without asking why should I bother to put it out when they want me to ive got better things to do with my time and its bad enough havig to remember which dy to put the bins out " (all said in one breath too ) and hes the one at home all day so he gets to do all that stuff.

I must have been thinking of Kleeneze then or something like that SG, as a work colleague of mines wife got stung by them when she started to do it and it cost him alot of money to sort it all out. they had to pay for catalogues etc in advance and I thougth it was a real rip off.

Have to say that if someone had called at the door and asked if we wanted one them Id have been fine about it and said no thanks cos I just dont have money to spare for anything except essentials. Have to say Ive never bought anything from Lakeland either tho.

Saintgeorge - I did notice that Lakeland is a bit of a glorified Betterware when I was in there (heresy I know). I always compare the price/ design before I buy!

Maybe it is the difference between Betterware and Kleeneze reps - or maybe it is just me! Must admit even my manager was surprised that I went to that amount of effort on my first posting, but it made sense to me. Reduced a territory of 1500 houses to 1000 in one go - less work for me but still the same profit, I have just eliminated the 'not interested' households.
