Toothpaste

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has any idea which adult toothpaste might be most palatable to children? I've been told that in our area insufficient fluoride is added to the drinking water, and so we should clean the dds' teeth with 'grown-up' toothpaste, rather than the stuff formulated for kids. But so far I haven't found anything that doesn't just taste too strong for them. Is it just a case of persevering and them getting used to the stronger taste? Anyone got any ideas of 'mild' toothpastes?

Dd likes Sensodyne (even though she doesn't have sensitive teeth).

YOu can get a Macleans 'milkteeth' toothpaste with fluoride in it now. It's white rather than pink and more like adult toothpaste. I've just switched to it after the dentist at the dental hospital gave it to me for ds2 (he banged a tooth and it went grey so was just checking it out). They resisted at first but now have got used to it.

Oh and the dentist at the hospital also said that after age 4, children can have adult toothpaste (well, once they stop swallowing it) but so long as it's not sensitive or whitening or anything like that - has to be just plain standard toothpaste.

Where we live the children are advised to start on the adult toothpaste so that the right level of fluoride is in the toothpaste. Dental Health Foundation reccommend the level of fluoride be at least 1000ppm. You can check this on the ingredients on the back of the toothpaste. We have always used Macleans toothpaste as this has 1350 ppm fluoride which is more than enough but we use smaller than pea size on the kids brushes. Ds is nearly 6 and dd is 2 and there teeth are in great condition so the dentist says. If your children really don't like the stronger flavour of toothpaste the mildest I have found is Dentimint which ds started off on. It has the reccommended 1000ppm fluoride.

Thanks everyone... I'll try to get some Dentimint or the Macleans milkteeth with extra fluoride. Where do you get that GdG? I've looked in the supermarket to see if you can get kids' toothpaste with extra fluoride, but haven't seen it.
