i just burned my hand, defrosting freezer, put a bowl of boiling water in and spilt it all over the back of my hand! ds has woken up, won't let me put him down and only had time to run hand under cold water for 2min or so. feels like its on fire! what will happen if i ignore it?!

get some frozen peas out and put them on, jb, if ds won't let you go away!

It will probably blister.

hunkermunker Sat 04-Jun-05 23:48:02

It will blister badly and maybe scar.

Can you stand holding him and run it under the kitchen tap?

Or let him cry a bit while you sort yourself out - your need is greater than his!

Poor you! Hope it's better soon.

frost bite, go black and drop off. then the mice will eat it and... - it will - honestly - it will!!

what? why are you laughing?

helsi Sat 04-Jun-05 23:48:33

only joking. It will blister.

Janh Sat 04-Jun-05 23:49:10

peas in packet btw, not loose, or they'll fall on the floor.

(Sorry, not being sarky!)

JoolsToo Sat 04-Jun-05 23:50:14

no, one frozen pea should do it ........

Gwenick Sat 04-Jun-05 23:50:17

Don't know how old DS is - but he CAN wait - get your hand under the running water (cold) for 10 minutes.

jinglybits Sat 04-Jun-05 23:50:41

oh no! there is no ice or anything, ate up all contents of the freezer before defrost so not a single frozen pea in the house! oh woe is me...ouch!

JB, definitely leave him to cry a bit - can you put a lullaby light on or something for him? What does he like best? Let him do that while you sort your hand out! Unless it's being carried round...! Then he can do his second favourite thing!

jinglybits Sat 04-Jun-05 23:59:30

o.k how long have i been gone?! performed acrobatic feat and rocked ds to sleep whilst holding hand under running water, phew!

hunkermunker Sun 05-Jun-05 00:00:40

Nine minutes - if it throbs again in the night, do it again. Burns and scalds are horrible things.

jinglybits Sun 05-Jun-05 00:01:42

...could have put him down but failed to mention have headache too and he is very very very LOUD in protest!

jinglybits Sun 05-Jun-05 00:03:01

think i'm gona go, starting to hurt again, how annoying! cheers hm and everyone.

hunkermunker Sun 05-Jun-05 00:04:06

Poor you - what a crummy night! Hope he sleeps now - well done on getting him back to sleep whilst holding your hand under the tap!

bubble99 Sun 05-Jun-05 00:04:19

<Bubble cracks whip>

Get back to work now HM.

hunkermunker Sun 05-Jun-05 00:04:55

I'm at home now, B99!

bubble99 Sun 05-Jun-05 00:11:03

Am I going to see the word twatshank mistakenly featuring in any of your work?

bubble99 Sun 05-Jun-05 00:14:42

That refers to another thread BTW. I'm not being rude. Quite inappropriate language for a first aid thread

hunkermunker Sun 05-Jun-05 00:39:11

No, B99, you won't. I am a pro-fess-ion-al. Honest, guv

eidsvold Sun 05-Jun-05 11:09:52

get some aloe vera gel if you can - helps with healing - health food shop usually a good source.

jinglybits Sun 05-Jun-05 15:51:50

update: no blistering, well some of my skin came off whilst running under cold tap some time around 2am last night...just a little bit...sorry, didn't mean to anyone with my graphicness! its alright now, feels like a graze.

teeavee Sun 05-Jun-05 15:56:49

at least you didn't burn your fingertips because they had become stuck fast to the inside of a freezer! That happened to a friend of mine, no-one around to pour boiling water to detach them, she had to pull them off herself, hurts like hell apparently....
