If dp gave up work to retrain as something else/go back to college or whatever, what benefits would we be entitled too ???

I know he wouldn't get job seekers cos he wouldn't be looking for work so would we get income support, tax credits ??

Oh and what about rent and council tax ???

I don't know how it works if he leaves his job,but if you claim income support naming your dp and your children on the form then i think your entitled to get reduced rent and council tax.

You were asking the other day about working at the weekend - I think it was a job as a catering assistant and you would work 7-3.

I don't think you get income support if he's a student. But you'll definitely get 25% off your Council Tax, and he'll get grants/burseries/student loans. Don't know how it works if you're in a council house though.

You'll still be entitles to Tax Credits.... and the Uni/College might have childcare facilities at a fraction of the cost.

I'm looking at jacking my job in next year and retraining as a mw. Can't wait!!!!!

Ahh right thanks toothache.

He's mentioned retraining as a plumber or elctrician a few times but because i am going back to college in september he said he'd have to accept he won't ever be able to do it.

Gosh, does he think you will just sit at home for ever and plan your life and the childrens lives around what he might want to do?!!! Sorry, don't I sound stroppy?! But you just work around each other, so you can both work / train to be what you want; lots of families do it! Is he just looking for an excuse not to do it?

I think he is feeling a bit like he has wasted his life as he isn't trained for anything at all.

His first choice would be to get his hgv licence but there is no way we can afford to pay for that. The place he works for now have said that they may eventually train him but they said that about his forklift training and it never happened. They let him use it though.
